EU nation responds to Kiev’s criticism over Crimea
Hungary altered a political video ad after Ukraine accused it of a “provocative act”
The Hungarian government has deleted a video clip calling for peace in Ukraine, which identified the Crimean peninsula as part of Russia following backlash from Kiev.
Earlier this week, the Hungarian government released a 30-second political ad showing, among other things, a schematic map outlining Ukraine’s borders, which did not include Crimea.The peninsula overwhelmingly voted to join Russia in 2014 following a Western-backed coup in Kiev. Neither Ukraine nor its Western backers have recognized the referendum’s results.
In an apparent hint towards a possible international peace summit, another part of the video also featured a conference room with the flags of Russia, Ukraine, the US and several other countries.
The video left Kiev fuming, with the Ukrainian foreign ministry urging Budapest on Saturday to “stop engaging in provocative acts” and recalling that the clip contradicts Hungary’s official stance on Crimea’s status.
“Playing along with the aggressive policy of Russia does not contribute to the faster restoration of peace in Europe, which the Hungarian government advocates in public,”the ministry added.
Following the controversy, the video was deleted without any explanation from Budapest. On Sunday, a new version of the clip emerged on the Hungarian government’s official YouTube channel and Facebook page, with Crimea now designated as part of Ukraine.
Since the start of the Ukraine conflict, Hungary has repeatedly called for the two sides to enter peace negotiations while signaling readiness to host talks between Moscow and Kiev. It has also denounced anti-Russian sanctions as counterproductive, claiming they only damage the EU economy. In addition to this, Budapest has been reluctant to send weapons to Ukraine and has banned their transit to the neighboring country.

Saboteurs fighting in Russia’s Belgorod Region – governor

The governor of Russia’s Belgorod Region, Viacheslav Gladkov, said on Sunday that asabotage group from Ukraine has entered a local settlement and is currently engaged in fighting with the Russian forces.
In a video address, Gladkov responded to Denis Nikitin, the leader of theRussian Volunteer Corps, a neo-Nazi group of Russian nationals fighting on Kiev's side. In his video, the governor stated that a battle with the corps detachment was currently raging in Belgorod Region, and that he hoped that all members of the group would be killed.
“I saw the appeal of scoundrels, bastards, murderers and fascists who allegedly want to meet with me, offering a conversation in exchange for prisoners. In fact, a group of sabouteurs went in, there is a battle in Novaya Tavolzhanka. I hope that they will all be destroyed, it cannot be otherwise.Every day civilians die at the hands of these fascists, we bury them every day. Crippled children and dead old people – that's their handiwork,” he said.
In late May, a Ukrainian sabotage group conducted an incursion into the Grayvoronsky District of Belgorod Region. They managed to briefly capture a few villages before encountering a swift response from the Russian military, resulting in significant casualties for the attackers. The incident left one civilian dead and several injured.
Following the late May attack, the Russian Defense Ministry declared that the shootout had resulted in the destruction of “over 70 Ukrainian terrorists, four armored combat vehicles, and five pickup trucks.”Subsequently, the remaining militants were forced back into Ukraine and came under fire from Russian artillery.
In an apparent attempt to distance itself from the raid, Kiev attributed responsibility to the “Freedom of Russia Legion” and the “Russian Volunteer Corps,” both neo-Nazi groups involved in a similar assault on Bryansk Region back in March.
(I think Ukraine is trying to divert Russia from the buildup for their counteroffensive. It won’t work. Its also retaliation for last night bombing by Russia of Defense facilities in Ukraine.)

Anglo-Saxons didn’t exist – Cambridge University
Studying the direct predecessors of the modern English is not “anti-racist” enough for the university, the Telegraph reported
Cambridge University is teaching students that the Anglo-Saxons never existed as a distinct ethnic group, in an effort to “dismantle the… myths” of English nationalism, the Telegraph reported on Saturday. Liberal academics have long decried the term for its association with “whiteness.”
Cambridge’s Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic (ASNC) will seek “to dismantle the basis of myths of nationalism – that there ever was a ‘British’, ‘English’, ‘Scottish’, ‘Welsh’ or ‘Irish’ people with a coherent and ancient ethnic identity – by showing students just how constructed and contingent these identities are and always have been,” the British newspaper reported, citing information from the university.
By denigrating the idea of a distinct Anglo-Saxon identity, the university said that itaims to make its teaching more “anti-racist.”
The controversy over the term ‘Anglo-Saxon’ began in 2019, when Canadian academic Dr Mary Rambaran-Olm resigned from the International Society of Anglo-Saxonists over the “inherent whiteness” of the field. Rambaran-Olm, who is not white, went on to write that “the Anglo-Saxon myth perpetuates a false idea of what it means to be ‘native’ to Britain,” and that the term is “historically inaccurate.”
The society changed its name to the International Society for the Study of Early Medieval England, but some academics were furious, describing the controversy as an attempt to impose American racial identity politics onto a British field of study. “The conditions in which the term is encountered, and how it is perceived, are very different in the USA from elsewhere,” 70 historians wrote in an open letter in 2020.
“It’s a continuation of what’s been going on for some years, where pride in national identity is being attacked,” political commentator Anthony Webber told RT. Pointing out that the modern-day English owe a third of their ancestry to the Anglo-Saxons, he added: “I don't think it serves the cause of anti-racism to suddenly make sections of the population feel that they shouldn’t be proud of their background.”
Historically, the Anglo-Saxon period denotes the time between around 450 and 1066 AD. During this period, Germanic peoples – Angles, Saxons, and Jutes – arrived in Britain and established kingdoms that were consolidated into the Kingdom of England by Athelstan of Wessex in 927. This period saw the development of the first iteration of the English language and the creation of epic poems like Beowulf and Waldere.
So influential were the Anglo-Saxons on modern British and American culture that the French and Russians use the term as shorthand for English-speaking elites on both sides of the Atlantic.

Polish militants claim involvement in attack on Russia
The “Polish Volunteer Corps” says it infiltrated Belgorod Region alongside Russian neo-Nazis
Polish militants fighting for Ukraine released a statement on Sunday claiming their involvement in an attack on Russia’s Belgorod Region.
The announcement, accompanied by alleged photo and video evidence, was shared on social media accounts of the so-called “Polish Volunteer Corps.”
The statement appears to refer to an incursion by saboteurs into the Grayvoron District of Belgorod Region,which took place on May 22.
The “Polish Volunteer Corps” said it unequivocally confirmed its role in the operation, stating that the group collaborated with the Russian Volunteer Corps, a neo-Nazi unit of Russian nationals fighting on behalf of Ukraine under the authority of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
In a bid to prove its role in the May 22 raid, fighters from the Polish Volunteer Corps shared videos, in which they can be seen with Ukrainian T-72B tanks, American HMMWV armored vehicles, and Mi-8 helicopters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The governor of Belgorod Region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, also mentioned the presence of Polish citizens among the saboteurs. On his Telegram channel, he recounted the story of a woman, whose husband – a member of the local self-defense forces – was killed in front of her. According to Gladkov, the woman was held captive by two Ukrainians, and she stated that theother group members were Poles and Americans.
Previously, the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry discussed the involvement of the “Russian Volunteer Corps” and members of the “Freedom of Russia” legion in the Belgorod Region operation.
However, the “Russian Volunteer Corps” issued a statement on Sunday denying that members of the “Polish Volunteer Corps” had crossed the Russian border. The group claimed on social media that their Polish fellow combatants were involved in tasks such as prisoner escort, along with military and medical logistics, but strictly within the borders of Ukraine.
Warsaw has insisted it has nothing to do with the Polish militants fighting for Kiev. “The activities of Polish volunteers supporting Ukraine in the fight against Russia should not be identified with the authorities of the Republic of Poland”, said Stanislaw Zaryn, spokesman for the coordinating minister of the country’s special services.

Disney’s Pixar Animation Studios has slashed 75 jobs, including the top crew members of 2022’s ‘Lightyear’, which was blocked from release in 17 countries because of its depiction of a homosexual kiss and ridiculed by conservatives in the West.

Its depiction of a homosexual relationship between two female characters saw it banned in 16 Muslim countries and in China. These bans reportedly cost Disney $100 million in potential profits.
While the homosexual scene was initially cut from the movie several months before release, Disney’s then-CEOBob Chapek insisted that it be reinserted in response to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill. This legislation, signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis last March, prohibits teachers in Florida from discussing sexuality and gender identity with children in kindergarten through third grade.
Conservative pundits hammered Disney for pushing a “woke” message onto an unreceptive audience and critics called the movie “pedestrian” and “frustratingly slow,” butChapek doubled downand insisted that Disney’s content would continue to “reflect the rich, diverse world that we live in.”
Disney’s ‘Strange World’, an animated movie which also featured a gay main character and ends in a warning about climate change, bombed last year too,losing at least $60 millionat the box office.
Disney lost $100 billion in market value under the stewardship of Chapek, who was fired in October and replaced by former CEO Bob Iger. Back in charge after less than a year in retirement, Iger announced in February that Disney wouldlay of 7,000 workers as part of a plan to cut $5.5 billion in costs.
Three waves of layoffs followed, with MacLane and Susman axed in the final round in May.
