Trump does not understand his base very well. Trump fucked up on Covid and for him to try to go after DeSantis for the covid disaster is tone deaf. He may win the primary, but until he admits how much he fucked up covid, a lot of people will not vote for him anyway. I would rather see the whole thing burn at this point than support more of the uniparty (which he is until he goes after big pharma and blind support for Isreal).
