U.S. Companies Plan over 400K Layoffs as Democrats Claim Business Needs More Foreign Workers to Hire

Companies in the United States have announced, so far this year, more than 400,000 layoffs — more than the layoffs announced in all of last year. The job cuts come as Democrats, on behalf of business special interests, demand more foreign competition in the labor market for employers to hire.

The employment data, collected by Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. and published in Bloomberg, shows that roughly 417,500 layoffs have been announced from January through May by U.S. companies across sectors such as technology, banking, retail, and media, among others.

Compare those announced layoffs in just the first five months of this year to the 364,000 total layoffs announced in all of 2022. In tech, there have been almost 140,000 layoffs announced this year so far. This is only slightly fewer than the 169,000 layoffs in tech in 2001.

“Companies cited economic conditions and cost-cutting for more than half of the layoffs announced this year,” Bloomberg noted.

At the same time, Democrats across the U.S. have suggested that business special interests complain about so-called labor shortages and thus the tens of thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens that President Joe Biden’s administration is admitting into the nation every month ought to be given immediate work permits.

“We have one message, let them work,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) told the Biden administration last month of the thousands of migrants who have arrived in the city since last year. “That is our clear message that we are sending. We must expedite work authorization for asylum seekers, not in the future, but now.”

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has issued similar sentiments.

“… at the same time, we have this historic labor shortage, we also have this unprecedented influx of individuals arriving in New York — all of them legally seeking asylum,” Hochul said. “They’re eager to work, they want to work, they came here in search of work.”

North Miami Beach Democrat mayor arrested, charged with 3 counts of felony voter fraud, faces 15 years in prison

The mayor of North Beach Miami in Florida – a Democrat – is facing 15 years in prison after being arrested and charged with voter fraud.

Miami Beach Mayor Anthony DeFillipo was arrested on Wednesday. He has been charged with three felony counts of voter fraud. The charges are third-degree felonies, which each count is punishable with up to five years in prison.

Six months before his arrest, a complaint was filed with the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics & Public Trust alleging DeFillipo lived in the town of Davie in Broward County. The North Miami Beach city charter requires elected officials to reside in the city.

DeFillipo admitted that he owns a property in Davie, but said it was for his family to live in because he was experiencing marital issues at the time. He insisted that he lives at his property in North Miami Beach. Records show that DeFillipo owns two properties in Davie, which he admitted.

DeFillipo and his wife purchased a six-bedroom home in the Sierra Ranches community in Davie for $1,226,500 in July 2022, according to Broward County property records. He acknowledged that he serves on the homeowners association board for the Davie community.

An investigation into DeFillipo allegedly revealed that the Democrat mayor relocated to his residence in Davie.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle accused DeFillipo of driving from Davie to North Miami Beach to cast his vote in three different elections in August, October, and November 2022. Rundle said her office utilized cell phone data to determine that DeFillipo traveled from his property in Davie to vote in a precinct in North Miami Beach, and then returned to his home in Davie.

"We believe the evidence shows (DeFillipo) voted illegally three times," Rundle declared.

Rundle said, "Our voting laws apply to everyone. There are no unwritten exceptions."

DeFillipo has denied the allegations of voter fraud.

DeFillipo's attorney, Michael Pizzi, said his client's arrest is politically motivated.

"The mayor has explained over and over again, and under oath, he always intended to and always lived in North Miami Beach," Pizzi said. "We look forward to a speedy exoneration."

The Miami Herald reported, "A registered Democrat, DeFillipo, 51, served on the city commission for five years before becoming mayor in 2018. A licensed real estate broker, DeFillipo is CEO of TD Managing Enterprise."

DeFillipo is reportedly the third North Miami Beach mayor to be arrested in 11 years.

Absolutely maddening. He lectured us on lockdowns and claimed he spoke for SCIENCE with absolute, dictatorial certitude. And now, NOW, he says he had essentially no idea if any of it would work because “no studies had been done.” He ruined countless lives including children based on an initial hunch, quadruple-downed when it was crystal clear his policies hurt more than helped, and has the arrogance to scold those of us who want to set the record straight as “Monday morning quarterbacks”

Proclaimed republican and former NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made Dame in King’s Birthday and Coronation Honours

Jacinda Ardern, an avowed republican, was in "two minds" accepting being named a Dame in the King’s Birthday and Coronation Honours.

Jacinda Ardern, a proclaimed republican, has been made a Dame Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the King’s Birthday and Coronation Honours list.

The former prime minister was the only person among 182 recipients to be made a Dame or Knight Grand Companion this year – the second highest honour for services to the state.

She was recognised on Monday for leading her country through tumultuous years, which saw terrorist attacks in Christchurch and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms Ardern said she was in “two minds” about accepting the honour.

“So many of the things we went through as a nation over the last five years were about all of us rather than one individual,” she told the New Zealand Herald.

“But I have heard that said by so many Kiwis who I have encouraged to accept an honour over the years.

“And so for me, this is a way to say thank you - to my family, to my colleagues, and to the people who supported me to take on the most challenging and rewarding role of my life.”

Ms Ardern in 2021 stated she believed New Zealand would separate from the Monarch in her lifetime, but added she would not instigate the process.

She claimed the role of governor-general would possibly be made redundant within years, following Dame Cindy Kiro’s succession to the role.

Ms Ardern abruptly resigned from office in January earlier this year, admitting she did not have "enough in the tank" to do the role.

She was internationally recognised when she became the world’s youngest person to assume head of government when she was elected at 37 years old in 2017.

Nearly 80 young girls 'poisoned' and hospitalised in separate attacks on primary schools in Afghanistan

It is thought to be first such assault since Taliban swept to power in August 2021

Attacked girls were in grades 1-6 and are banned from education beyond that

Nearly 80 girls were poisoned and hospitalised in two separate attacks at their primary schools in northern Afghanistan, an education official has said.

It is thought to be the first time this kind of assault has happened since the Taliban swept to power in August 2021 and began their crackdown on the rights and freedoms of Afghan women and girls.

Girls are banned from education beyond sixth grade, including university, and women are barred from most jobs and public spaces.

The education official said the person who orchestrated the poisoning had a personal grudge but did not elaborate.

The attacks took place in Sar-e-Pul province over Saturday and Sunday and are similar to those happening in Iran since last November.

Nearly 80 female students were poisoned in Sangcharak district, said Mohammad Rahmani, who heads the provincial education department.

He said 60 students were poisoned in Naswan-e-Kabod Aab School and 17 others were poisoned in Naswan-e-Faizabad School.

'Both primary schools are near to each other and were targeted one after the other,' he said. 'We shifted the students to hospital and now they are all fine.'

The department's investigation is ongoing and initial inquiries show that someone with a grudge paid a third party to carry out the attacks, Mr Rahmani said.

Neighbouring Iran has been rocked by a wave of poisonings, mostly in girls' schools, where thousands of students said they were sickened by noxious fumes in the incidents.

In a wave of cases since late November, more than 5,000 students have suffered fainting, nausea, shortness of breath and other symptoms after reporting 'unpleasant' odours, with some needing hospital treatment.

The unexplained attacks in about 230 schools have sparked fear and anger among pupils and their parents.

Disturbing videos have circulated online since which appear to show young girls gasping for air as they desperately try to force their way out of schools in Iran, amid a shocking spate of poisonings of children in the country.

In one chilling clip, shared by a BBC Persian journalist, dozens of schoolgirls are seen on the floor after running out of their classrooms, coughing and wailing in pain.

The attacks have targeted mainly female pupils since they were first seen in late November, with many rushed to hospital and unverified videos showing packed emergency rooms.

The mystery poisonings have gripped Iran, triggering a wave of angry protests involving distressed parents and teachers and allegations of government complicity from human rights and opposition groups.

Theories around who is behind the series of horrifying attacks include that the authorities may be taking revenge on the girls for their role in the protests which have been ongoing for months.

Swiss capital votes for legal cocaine

After testing the controlled sale of cannabis, Bern’s city parliament now wants to give residents access to harder substances

The municipal council of Bern voted on Thursday to extend the trial sale of cannabis to cocaine. The drug will not be immediately legalized, however, without the federal government’s permission.

The motion, which was introduced by the Alternative Left party, passed by 43 votes to 18, Swiss news outlet SRF reported on Friday. The motion was opposed by center-right and religious councilors, but supported by leftists and some members of the center-left Social Democratic Party.

Bern voted last year to test the controlled sale of cannabis, and was granted permission by the federal government last month. Cannabis sales are expected to begin in Bern this fall, and have already started in Basel, Zurich, and Lausanne.

Noting that the federal government only agreed to allow cannabis sales after significant pressure from multiple cities, Bern Social Director Franziska Teuscher said her city would not push the government to act on cocaine, and that Thursday’s vote instead sent a signal that the city would be open to the idea in future.

A similar motion was rejected by the council in 2019, with the Social Democrat majority arguing that they wanted to gain experience with legal cannabis sales before moving on to harder drugs.

Switzerland is a cocaine hotspot, with Addiction Switzerland estimating that five tons of the powder enters the country every year. According to EU data, four Swiss cities – Zurich, Basel, Geneva – rank in the top ten in Europe for cocaine consumption. Consumption all across Europe has risen in the last decade, with residents of Bern consuming more than twice as much of the substance last year as they did in 2012.

Japan's Birth Rate Plummets To Record Low For Seventh Straight Year

Japan’s birth rate declined to a record low for the seventh consecutive year, with the number of babies born falling below 800,000 this year, health ministry data showed on June 2.

The number of newborns in Japan fell to 770,747 this year, down 40,875 from the previous year and the lowest since the country began record-keeping in 1899, Kyodo News reported, citing health ministry data.

Japan’s fertility rate—the average number of children born to a woman in her lifetime—fell from 1.30 in 2021 to 1.26 last year, equivalent to the previous low recorded in 2005. The number is far below the 2.07 rate necessary to sustain a stable population.

The decline in Japan’s birth rate is attributed to people delaying parenthood due to the economic impact brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the prevailing trend among couples to delay marriage, according to the report.
