Victoria health chief Brett Sutton resigns after leading state Covid response

The man who implemented Victoria’s controversial Covid lockdowns has resigned after four years in the top job.

The man behind Victoria’s controversial Covid response which saw much of the state shuttered for months has resigned.

Chief health officer Brett Sutton announced he would be stepping down as the state’s health czar after more than three years in the top role.

Mr Sutton joined the Health Department in 2011, before leading the state’s response to the Covid pandemic from late-2019.

Victoria was subjected to some of the largest Covid waves throughout the pandemic, with six lockdown measures being implemented.

While widely seen as being instrumental in curbing Covid cases, tight lockdown laws drew criticism throughout Mr Sutton’s tenure.

Victorian Premier Dan Andrews defended the state’s response late-last year, stating the pandemic presented “difficult decisions” for leaders.

“These decisions were not made lightly, and they were the subject of debate and discussion and very careful consideration,” Mr Andrews said.

Mr Andrews’ comments followed the release last year of 97-page independent review led by former top public servant Peter Shergold.

The report urged governments at all levels – state and federal - to learn from the past three years.

In a statement, Victoria’s Health Department said Mr Sutton would be leaving government for a role with the country’s chief science body.

“Professor Sutton is an invaluable leader in the field of public health and will be continuing this great work in his new role at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, as Director of Health and Biosecurity,” a spokesperson said.

“He has helped to develop a strong and responsive public health team, providing critical health information and advice on a wide variety of issues and emergencies over the years.

“This experience will no doubt be instrumental in Professor Sutton’s new role at CSIRO where he will remain engaged in health and wellbeing at a national and regional level.”

Health officials were still finalising the details of Mr Sutton’s transition, including any acting arrangements.

Japan Begins Secretly Releasing Irradiated Water From Fukushima Disaster Into The Ocean

Tokyo Electric Power Company (better known as TEPCO) started releasing irradiated seawater from Monday afternoon into an underwater tunnel that has been built to release Fukushima nuclear contaminated water into the sea, Japan's public broadcaster NHK said on Tuesday.

According to TEPCO, the tunnel will be filled with some 6,000 tons of seawater by around noon on Tuesday.

The process, according to China Daily, was carried out "secretly" on Monday because Japan's unilateral decision of dumping more than 1.3 million metric tons of treated but still radioactive water into the ocean provoked consistent protests from neighboring countries, such as China, Pacific Island communities and civil society groups in the most affected prefectures such as Fukushima, Iwate and Miyagi.

And instead of targeting what will be a tangible environmental catastrophe in just days, the hollow and hypocritical virtue signaling talking heads continue droning on about such meaningless drivel as ESG and global warming.

Also, oddly enough, there has not been a peep about this clear and present ocean disaster from either the original Greta, or her new and improved for mass-consumption replacement, Sophia Kianni, who lately appears to be more focused on building up her scantily-clad, environmentally-fighting image than, well, fighting for the environment…

Under Japan's plan, once filled with seawater, the tunnel, which was completed this April, will guide contaminated water from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi power plant to a point about 1 kilometer offshore. And now, the whole release system is almost complete, except for a reservoir that will store those contaminated water before its release. TEPCO said before that all construction work will be done by the end of this month.

If it's done, the release would be sufficient to fill about 500 Olympic-sized swimming pools and the water has been used to cool highly radioactive damaged reactor cores as the massive earthquake and tsunami destroyed the Fukushima plant's cooling systems, triggering the meltdown of three reactors and the release of large amounts of radiation.

Soros predicts Ukrainian victory in counterattack, says Russia is a ‘paper tiger’

The billionaire discusses the Ukraine war, but also climate change and the threat of AI

American oligarch of Hungarian origin George Soros believes Ukraine will win the war, and it will be a “positive shock” for global relations. The billionaire made the predictions in a new column in Project Syndicate, which is partly funded by his own Open Society Foundations.

In the column, Soros borrows a term from U.S. economic historian Adam Tooze, writing of a “polycrisis” in the world and pointing to the meteoric rise of artificial intelligence, climate change and the war in Ukraine.

Regarding Ukraine, the controversial billionaire states that “the actual outcome (of the Ukraine war) is much better than could have been expected. The Ukrainian army put up heroic resistance and, with strong support from the U.S. and Europe, turned things around. The Russian army proved to be a paper tiger, badly led and thoroughly corrupt.”

With regard to Ukraine’s expected counter-offensive, according to the billionaire, Ukraine is ready to launch a counterattack as soon as the promised Western weapons — in particular the F-16 fighter jets authorized by U.S. President Joe Biden — arrive.

NASA Warns of ‘Internet Apocalypse’ That Leaves People Offline for Months

A groundbreaking mission by NASA’s Parker Solar Probe (PSP) has successfully ventured through solar wind for the first time aiming to prevent people on earth being unable to get on the internet.

Scientists have issued warnings about the potential impact of a solar storm, commonly referred to as an “internet apocalypse,” which could strike within the next decade.

The spacecraft, which was launched five years ago, went on a remarkable journey which took it close to the sun’s surface, where solar wind is generated.

Solar wind consists of a continuous stream of charged particles emanating from the sun’s outermost atmosphere, known as the corona.

Despite the extreme conditions of intense heat and radiation, the Parker Solar Probe persevered to gather crucial insights into the workings of the sun.

Professor Stuart Bale, the lead author of the study and affiliated with California University in the United States, explained the significance of understanding solar wind.

He said: “Winds carry lots of information from the sun to Earth. So understanding the mechanism behind the sun’s wind is important for practical reasons on Earth.

“That’s going to affect our ability to understand how the sun releases energy and drives geomagnetic storms – which are a threat to our communication networks.”

Such an event could leave people without internet access for months or even years, rendering satellites and power lines useless.

The Parker Solar Probe, with its advanced instrumentation, detected solar wind with unparalleled detail, uncovering crucial information that is lost as the wind exits the corona in the form of photons and electrons.

The team of U.S. researchers likened the experience to “seeing jets of water emanating from a showerhead through the blast of water hitting you in the face.”

These findings helped identify a phenomenon known as “supergranulation flows” within coronal holes, where magnetic fields emerge.

The team suggests that these regions serve as the origin points for the high-speed solar wind.

Typically found at the sun’s poles during quiet periods, the holes do not directly impact Earth.

Satellite Imagery from College of DuPage Meteorology Department Shows Over a Dozen Fires in Quebec Start Up at Almost the Exact Same Time

The northeastern United States was engulfed yesterday with a massive blanket of smoke from wildfires burning in Quebec since Tuesday. New York City quickly all but disappeared behind the orangish haze. Yesterday, The Gateway Pundit shared a story containing a video of the George Washington Bridge that was tweeted by Marjorie Taylor Greene, as well as a time lapse of the smoke rolling into the Big Apple.

The fires reportedly originated in Quebec, Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Twitter to thank Joe Biden for sending hundreds of US firefighters up to Canada to help with the blaze while also, of course, blaming climate change.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy made sure to declare his allegiance to the climate change zealots as well in his statement yesterday:

Make no mistake, from the wildfires in Canada to those cropping up with increasing frequency and severity in our own backyard, these extreme weather events are tangible – and devastating – evidence of the intensifying climate crisis.

Satellite imagery shared by Wide Awake Media on Twitter shows plumes of smoke rising from at least 17 separate visible sites (over 100 separate fires have been reported) at around 6pm EST, according to the video. At the 47 second mark in the video below, you can see the smoke stacks begin to emerge almost simultaneously from central and southeast Quebec:

A user on Twitter shared a map that showed several lightning strikes in Quebec between the hours of 4am and 10am on June 2nd.

Is it possible that numerous separate fire sites were started from lightning strikes and simultaneously took at least 8 hours before the smoke was visible enough from satellite? While the video linked above suggests “terrorism of some kind…or an attack”, the official explanation being given by the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, Maïté Blanchette-Vézina is “lightning.”

In total, Quebec’s forest fire protection and response agency (SOPFEU) is showing 132 fires currently burning in that area. The Montreal Gazette reported that over 152 were active on Monday and 114 of those were “out of control”.

The smoke resulting from the fires has brought many in the northeastern United States to a grinding halt and forced some New Yorkers to break out their leftover COVID-era N95 masks to thwart the smoke in the engulfed city while over 10,000 residents in Quebec were forced to evacuate.
