DOJ charges two Russian nationals in 2011 crypto hack

Alexey Bilyuchenko, 43, and Aleksandr Verner, 29, face charges of conspiring to launder 647,000 bitcoins taken from the Mt. Gox. exchange.

The Department of Justice on Friday announced charges against two Russian nationals stemming from the 2011 hack of the Mt. Gox cryptocurrency exchange and the operation of BTC-e.

Alexey Bilyuchenko, 43, and Aleksandr Verner, 29, face charges of conspiring to launder 647,000 bitcoins taken from the Mt. Gox. exchange. Indicted in the Southern District of New York, the pair hacked the exchange, then the largest in existence, and transferred bitcoins to digital wallets in their control. They then laundered much of the money by entering into a fraudulent advertising contract with a New York-based Bitcoin broker. Both face conspiracy to commit money laundering charges.

Bilyuchenko faces separate charges in the Northern District of California of money laundering conspiracy and operating an unlicensed money services business. He separate worked with another individual, Alexander Vinnik, to operate the illicit cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e from 2011-2017.

That exchange also ranked among the largest exchanges in the world and was a hub of digital criminal activity. Authorities shut it down in 2017.

Authorities celebrated the indictment, with Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite, Jr. saying it "marks an important milestone in two major cryptocurrency investigations."

"As alleged in the indictments, starting in 2011, Bilyuchenko and Verner stole a massive amount of cryptocurrency from Mt. Gox, contributing to the exchange’s ultimate insolvency," he continued. "Armed with the ill-gotten gains from Mt. Gox, Bilyuchenko allegedly went on to help set up the notorious BTC-e virtual currency exchange, which laundered funds for cyber criminals worldwide."

ANOTHER LEAK: Biden Regime Leaks Alleged Trump Audio On General Milley’s Ludicrous Plan to Invade Iran with Tens of Thousands of US Troops to CNN

Last Wednesday afternoon Special Counsel Jack Smith leaked a report to CNN claiming they have audio recordings of Trump talking about classified documents.

It is likely illegal for Justice Department officials to leak classified information to the press. Where is the internal investigation?

The so-called classified information was a report written by dimwit Mark Milley, who surrendered Afghanistan to the Taliban and turned over $80 billion in US weapons to the terrorist group,

Mark Milley also secretly reached out to the Chinese Communist Regime and promised to warn them if President Trump ever threatened to use force against them. For some reason, Milley was never charged for this crime and still holds a government job.

MIAMI (AP) — Former President Donald Trump improperly shared a Pentagon “plan of attack” and a classified map related to a military operation, according to a sweeping 37-count felony indictment related to the mishandling of classified documents that was unsealed Friday and that could instantly reshape the 2024 presidential race.

The indictment paints an unmistakably damning portrait of Trump’s treatment of sensitive information, accusing him of willfully defying Justice Department demands to return documents he had taken from the White House to Mar-a-Lago, enlisting aides in his efforts to hide the records and even telling his lawyers that he wanted to defy a subpoena for the materials stored in his estate.

“I don’t want anybody looking through my boxes,” one of Trump’s lawyers described the former president saying, according to the indictment. He also asked if it would be better “if we just told them we don’t have anything here,” the indictment says.

Making his first public statements, Jack Smith, the Justice Department special counsel who filed the case, said: “Our laws that protect national defense information are critical to the safety and security of the United States and they must be enforced. Violations of those laws put our country at risk.”

He added, “We have one set of laws in this country and they apply to everyone.”

Ukraine tried to attack nuclear power plant – Russia

Air defenses brought down drones headed for the Zaporozhye NPP, authorities claimed

Russian air defenses have intercepted three drones armed with explosive warheads that were headed towards the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant on Friday, local authorities told RT. The attack came after Moscow had warned Kiev against any attacks on Europe’s largest atomic energy station.

Electronic warfare specialists detected the UAVs and brought them down, Zaporozhye officials said. One of the drones exploded upon crashing, while two were recovered mostly intact. The lightweight UAVs were armed with PG-7L high-explosive rockets, commonly used with RPG-7 anti-tank launchers.

Ordnance disposal specialists examined the wreckage and decided to destroy the devices on the spot, after documenting the remains.

“Ukraine blew up the Nova Kakhovka hydroelectric power station in order to distract the world from the failures of their much-publicized counteroffensive,” the Zaporozhye authorities said in a statement. “Now they need another disaster, this time a nuclear one, for which they will again blame Russia.”

FBI arrests Texas developer connected to Ken Paxton impeachment

According to jail records, Paul was booked at the Travis County Jail for an "undetermined" felony charge.

Nate Paul, a Texas developer connected to Attorney General Ken Paxton's recent impeachment, was arrested earlier this week by the FBI.

Paxton was impeached last month by the Texas House over allegations that include misusing his office to help Nate Paul, a real estate investor in Austin.

According to jail records, Paul was booked at the Travis County Jail for an “undetermined” felony charge, the Texas Tribune reports.

Under the Texas Constitution, Paxton has stepped aside temporarily as the process plays out.

The Senate will now have to take up the matter and vote whether or not to remove the attorney general. Two-thirds of the Senate must vote to remove him, which in this case means 21 senators, or he will remain in office.

Other charges Paxton is facing include obstruction of justice, dereliction of duty, unfitness for office and abuse of public trust.

Ukraine shifts timeline for Crimean incursion

Kiev’s military intelligence service has claimed its “prophetic” vision will come true before the winter

A spokesman for Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) has downplayed a failed prediction made by his boss, Kirill Budanov, who had claimed that Ukrainian troops would enter Crimea by the end of spring. The new target is sometime this year before the weather turns cold, the official insisted.

When asked about Budanov’s inaccurate assessment by the Ukrainskaya Pravda newspaper on Friday, spokesman Andrey Yusov said it was not “a bookmaker’s bet or a date on a tear-off calendar.”

“But the overall situation and the wider assessment remain the same: Ukraine will definitely return Crimea. And then Budanov’s words would be prophetic,” Yusov claimed.

He declined to set a more specific deadline, citing battlefield uncertainties, but suggested that the touted breakthrough would happen “while it is warm.”
