NEW YORK — Actor Ron Vawter thinks of Roy Cohn and Jack Smith as chameleons: men who changed the color of their skin to avoid being eaten.
Cohn was a powerful right-wing lawyer who rose to prominence as the hatchet man for Joseph McCarthy, the redbaiting U.S. senator who bullied the political Establishment in the ‘50s.Smith was a performance artist whose 1962 avant-garde film “Flaming Creatures” featured cavorting drag queens.But what made these two “chameleons” vulnerable was their homosexuality. And as a diptych of their respective colorations, Vawter’s solo show “Roy Cohn/Jack Smith,” which opens at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art on Thursday for a four-week run, is a meditation on the pathology of self-hate.
“I did this as a cautionary tale,” said the 43-year-old Vawter recently, in a mid-town Manhattan restaurant, drinking margaritas and drumming on a pack of cigarettes. “It’s a warning both to gays and to society at large. On the one hand, if gays hide their true feelings, either by being closeted or being flamboyant to the extreme, they’ll stunt their full human potential. And if society insists on repressing homosexuals, they will give rise to monsters.”
As a young man coming out as a homosexual in his early 20s, Vawter said, he found both Smith and Cohn to be “terrifying” as potential role models.

Special counsel Jack Smith is locked in at least eight secret court battles that aim to unearth some of the most closely held details about Donald Trump’s actions after the 2020 election and handling of classified material, according to sources and court records reviewed by CNN.
The outcome of these disputes could have far-reaching implications, as they revolve around a 2024 presidential candidate and could lead courts to shape the law around the presidency, separation of powers and attorney-client confidentiality in ways they’ve never done before.
Yet almost all of the proceedings are sealed, and filings and decisions aren’t public.
The sheer number of grand jury challenges from potential witnesses is both a reflection of the scope of the special counsel’s investigation and a hallmark of Trump’s ultra-combative style in the face of investigations.

Former Top Department of Justice Official Blows Up Jack Smith’s Case Against President Trump With One Tweet – Notices Key Item on Third Page of the Federal Indictment That Is “Grounds for Granting a Motion” to Dismiss
A former top Department of Justice official completely blew up Special Counsel Jack Smith’s inquisition against President Trump with one simple tweet on Friday. He claims there is a key piece of information in the indictment that is grounds for a quick dismissal.
As TGP’s Cassandra MacDonald previously reported Trump announced on social media Thursday night that he had been informed he had been indicted in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into his handling of classified documents.
He will be arraigned in Miami on Tuesday. The Biden regime decided to indict Trump over having classified documents at the Mar-A-Lago.
TGP’s Kristinn Taylor reported that the federal indictment against Trump was released Friday afternoon and revealed the charges the former president is facing. It shows 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information, maximum: 10 years in prison, $250,000 fine. Counts: 32, conspiracy to obstruct justice, max 20 yrs, $250K; 33, withholding a document or record, max 20 yrs, $250K; 34, corruptly concealing a document or record, max 20 yrs, $250K; 35, concealing a document in a federal investigation, max 20 yrs, $250K; 36, scheme to conceal, max 5 yrs, $250K; and 37, false statements and representations, max 5yrs, $250K.
The indictment is 49 pages long. Trump faces a whopping 100 YEARS in prison if convicted of all charges and given the max on each one. This would mean he would die behind bars, which is what the Regime wants.
As reported by the Associated Press, The indictment claims Trump showed off classified documents on two separate occasions to several individuals who did not have security clearances. Biden’s Department of Injustice say both supposed instances occurred at Trump’s club in Bedminster, New Jersey back in 2021.
One of these alleged occasions was leaked to CNN last week.
CNN “reported” on May 31 that federal prosecutors had “obtained an audio recording of a summer 2021 meeting in which former President Donald Trump acknowledges he held onto a classified Pentagon document about a potential attack on Iran.” The network claims this destroys Trump’s argument that he declassified everything.
Jeffrey Clark, who served as an assistant attorney general in the Trump administration, says the leak is grounds for having the case tossed. Moreover, it proves Biden’s corrupt DOJ was the source of the leaks rather than Trump’s attorneys.
The details regarding the recording of Bedminster call is in the sixth paragraph of page 3 of the indictment.

Trump Makes Genius Legal Maneuver In His Battle With Alvin Bragg
Famed Attorney Alan Dershowitz is praising former President Donald Trump for using a legal maneuver in his battle with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Dershowitz argued that Trump filing a $500 million lawsuit against Michael Cohen, his former personal lawyer, was the perfect “Trump card” because it will help his case and hurt Bragg.
Cohen testified before the Manhattan grand jury that indicted Trump on 34 criminal charges of falsifying business records related to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trump sent a payment to Daniels ahead of the 2016 election, allegedly to keep Daniels quiet about an affair the two of them had in 2006. Trump pleaded not guilty to all 34 charges.
Dershowitz called Trump’s lawsuit against Cohen a “legitimate move” and one that should have been done.
“Good move. Good move. First of all, lawyers should not be violating lawyer-client privilege, number one. Number two, he gets a discovery, if he survives a motion to dismiss, and he is going to be able to find out things the government wouldn’t turn over to him in a criminal trial. So I think it’s a very smart move to go after Trump,” Dershowitz said.
“It’s very hard these days to hide things forever. With the internet, with social media, if you get the right people you can get things that people think they have hidden. So, I’m glad we are going to get to the bottom of this. Look, transparency is essential. If people have nothing to hide, they shouldn’t be worried,” he added.
Trump alleged in his lawsuit that Cohen violated attorney-client privilege by sharing confidential information and spreading lies about him “with malicious intent and to wholly self-serving ends.”
“Plaintiff has suffered vast reputational harm as a direct result of Defendant’s breaches,” the lawsuit stated, which was filed by Trump attorney Alejandro Brito in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
“Defendant derived a significant benefit, to Plaintiff’s detriment and at Plaintiff’s expense, as a direct result of his breach of fiduciary duty, including, without limitation, realization of substantial monetary gain in the form of compensation, advances, royalties, proceeds and/or profits received for his role in the writing, publication, promotion, and/or sale of the Books,” the lawsuit stated.
Trump is asking for over $500 million in “actual, compensatory, incidental, and punitive damages” from Cohen and any profits that he made from his podcast and books.
Cohen is already proving to be an issue for Bragg.
Law enforcement sources revealed a “supervising detective” assisting Bragg’s case against Trump has been suspended for his contact with Cohen.
“Jeremy Rosenberg, who investigates financial crimes for Bragg, had his gun removed recently for his interactions with Cohen, the sources claimed. A law enforcement source said Bragg’s office is looking at how Rosenberg shared communications about Cohen with the office,” New York Post reported. “Rosenberg also assisted in the prosecution of Steve Bannon in the alleged $15 million border-wall fundraising scam, for which Trump pardoned him. He did not return a call for comment.”
“The office is conducting a review of an investigator’s compliance with internal office protocols,” a Bragg spokeswoman said.
Cohen’s attorney, Lanny J. Davis said: “The interactions between Mr. Rosenberg, Michael Cohen, and myself were always professional and focused on Mr. Cohen’s personal security, which we appreciated.”
Last week, Bragg moved to oppose an attempt by Trump’s attorneys to move his hush-money case to federal court. Trump’s lawyers argued late last month that the case cannot be tried in a state court because the alleged violations took place while he was president, making them a federal matter.
In court documents, prosecutors in Manhattan argued that the case should remain with the state court because the former president’s “alleged criminal conduct had no connection to his official duties and responsibilities as President, but instead arose from his unofficial actions relating to his private businesses and pre-election conduct.”
