Good afternoon from lunch recess at Camp Justice, Guantánamo Bay, after an anxious morning in court in the first day of a three-week session in the USS Cole case.
For starters, a soldier inside our soundproofed gallery adjacent to the courtroom was told to gag spectators in the half hour before the judge came in and court began.
“No cross talk,” a PFC told me as I answered questions from a retired judge and Hague based lawyer about the layout of the unusual six-defendant court. We spent the next 29 minutes before the judge entered in stunned silence.
