Nottingham major incident: Three people killed as van attack leaves three more in hospital
A large part of the city centre is in lockdown after the horrific series of incidents in the early hours of this morning.
Three people are dead and three more in hospital after a horrific van rampage on the streets of Nottingham city early this morning. Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder and officers have confirmed that a series of incidents are linked. One body has been found at a house, two other people were found dead in the street and the driver of a van also tried to run over three others who are now being treated in hospital.
There are unconfirmed reports that the van, a white Vauxhall Vivaro, smashed into a bus stop before the suspect got out and stabbed people.
One witness has told how he heard what sounded like gunshots at 5.30am and then saw armed police jumping out of an undercover car. Co on
A witness who claimed she saw a white van plough into two people this morning has spoken following the shocking incident.
In a statement, a spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder after police were called to Ilkeston Road just after 4am this morning.
Officers attended the scene and found two people dead on the street before being called to another incident in Milton Street, where the van had "attempted to run over three people".
Chief Constable Kate Meynell said: "This is a horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people.
"We believe these three incidents are all linked and we have a man in custody. This investigation is at its early stages and a team of detectives is working to establish exactly what has happened.
