Chairman Wenstrup: On June 21, 2021, [Biden] stated, "If you are vaccinated, you're not going to be hospitalized. You are not going to be in the Intensive Care Unit. You are not going to die." By that date, were there vaccinated Americans that were hospitalized?

Walensky: What I can tell you is, at the time, CDC was releasing increasing data showing the immense protection of vaccines against severe disease, hospitalization, and death.

Wenstrup: But by that date, were there vaccinated Americans that were hospitalized?

Walensky: Maybe I will say this- we still, to this day, do not have data on people who are coming ito the hospitals who are vaccinated. That is a data point that we have lacked.

Lesko: Dr. Walensy, do you maintain an official government, and personal cell phone?

Walensky: I do.

Lesko: Does Miss Weingarten have your official or personal cell phone numbers, or both?

Walensky: I believe she has both.

Lesko: Have you ever exchanged text messages with Miss Weingarten?

Walensky: I have.

Lesko: Were these texts on you official or personal phones, or both?

Walensky: I would have to go back and check m it may be both.

Lesko: Were these texts in furtherance of official business, or about the business of the CDC?

Walensky: Um…I..imagine…I would have to go back and look

Lesko: Have you ever deleted any text messages to or from Miss Weingarten?

Walensky: No.

Lesko: Your own [CDC] website says you should wear a mask in addition to vaccination, yet you and your staff are not wearing masks. I don't understand.

Walensky: Our website has context in it, of course there's a link to our community hospitalization levels, and those hospitalization levels give recommendation on where to mask…

Lesko: But that's not on this simple page that the public sees.

Walensky: It was never really intended for the average American consumer, to consume our [CDC] web pages, and we now need to recognize that that is who our audience is.

Walensky: On a national level, we have never been able to get hospitalization, vaccination,and COVID [data].

McCormick: Would you say it was a good idea to send infected COVID patients back to the most vulnerable community of all, which is nursing homes?

Walensky: I can't speak to that, I was not aware of that…what was the alternative of them going there…there are a lot of parameters that would affect my answer to that question.

Jordan: You said [March 2021], "Vaccinated people do not carry the virus." Was that accurate?

Walensky: It was generally accurate.

Garcia: We also know that House Republicans actually sat back and did nothing when President Trump and his allies interfered in their work [CDC] to cover up his own incompetence. Americans died because of the political action, in my opinion, of the former president.

Marjorie Green: Now that you are going to be leaving the CDC pretty soon, what job are you going to take? Are you going to be on the board of either Pfizer or Moderna? Because you've done one hell of a job at making sure they've made a lot of money.

Walensky: CDC is not responsible for the purchase of vaccines, so I can't speak to all the economics that you spoke to….I don't have plans after I step down.

Jackson: I think it's safe to say that your resignation later this month is going to be an important step in returning America's trust to an organization that you did great damage to, in my opinion, during your tenure.

Walensky smiled big after that statement.
