Hunter has become an illustration of the game:
Minor offenses (lying on gun background check form, failing to file taxes) that we'd be crucified for, are swept away for "them" with a quick trip through the system, but only if the offenses become public enough to require it.
Book deals, art, and anything else that can be accused of having value due to their "status as a public figure" is an avenue for payoffs and payments for services rendered.
I don't believe it will go through that closed loop justice system when it's time for the actual charges to drop. Hope it all breaks soon -inflation has the price of popcorn through the roof.
