If they are lucky, the thing imploded and death was instantaneous with no warning. However it could be they died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Saw a guy explain that the sub had never been tested with five people onboard and he was not aware of any Co2 scrubbers onboard.

Why the mother ship would not enlist the use of a hydrophone on all dives seems strange to me. Hell, with three of them deployed nearby they would always know the exact location of the sub and an implosion would be heard as well.
