Uracil that was formed extraterrestrially has been detected in the Murchison meteorite,[7] in a near-Earth asteroid,[8] and possibly on the surface of the moon Titan.[9] It has been synthesized under cold laboratory conditions similar to outer space, from pyrimidine embedded in water ice and exposed to ultraviolet light.[10]

The central dogma of molecular biology is an explanation of the flow of genetic information within a biological system. It is often stated as "DNA makes RNA, and RNA makes protein",[1] although this is not its original meaning. It was first stated by Francis Crick in 1957,[2][3] then published in 1958:[4][5]

The Central Dogma. This states that once "information" has passed into protein it cannot get out again. In more detail, the transfer of information from nucleic acid to nucleic acid, or from nucleic acid to protein may be possible, but transfer from protein to protein, or from protein to nucleic acid is impossible. Information here means the precise determination of sequence, either of bases in the nucleic acid or of amino acid residues in the protein.

He re-stated it in a Nature paper published in 1970: "The central dogma of molecular biology deals with the detailed residue-by-residue transfer of sequential information. It states that such information cannot be transferred back from protein to either protein or nucleic acid."[6]

Reinforcement bars, ready mixed concrete materials, and repair materials are often subject to corrosion. These resources will rapidly degrade due to chloride attack and carbonatation. This not only affects the service lives of such materials, but it also requires a considerable cost for the repair of such defects. Lithium nitrite and calcium nitrite are generally used in the construction industry as a means to protect reinforced concrete structures from corrosion. Unlike calcium nitrite inhibitors, lithium nitrite is particularly valued for corrosion inhibition and resistance of carbonation when an accelerated hardening process is not used and when a high concentration of 10% or more cement is added by weight.[4]

May God also grant all of us the wisdom to ask what concrete steps we can take to reduce the violence and weaponry in our midst.

Roman concrete, also called opus caementicium, was used in construction in ancient Rome. Like its modern equivalent, Roman concrete was based on a hydraulic-setting cement added to an aggregate.

Many buildings and structures still standing today, such as bridges, reservoirs and aqueducts, were built with this material, which attests to both its versatility and its durability. Its strength was sometimes enhanced by the incorporation of pozzolanic ash where available (particularly in the Bay of Naples [PompeiO]). The addition of ash prevented cracks from spreading. Recent research has shown that the incorporation of lime clasts allowed the concrete to self-repair cracks.

Roman concrete was in widespread use from about 150 BC; some scholars believe it was developed a century before that.
