Starbucks union says workers at more than 150 stores will strike over Pride decor

Some organized Starbucks stores will strike across the U.S. starting Friday in Seattle after the coffee giant and the union representing baristas publicly clashed over claims that the company was not allowing Pride month decor in cafes.

The union, Starbucks Workers United, said more than 150 stores representing nearly 3,500 workers have pledged to join the strikes, which will take place over the next week. More than two dozen additional stores are voting on strike authorizations and the count could rise to nearly 200 stores by the end of the week, the union said.

Last week, the union alleged dozens of U.S. stores were not allowing employees to decorate for Pride month, accusations that suggested a wave of backlash against LGBTQ+ inclusion had reached a perceived liberal bastion in corporate America. Starbucks said it had not revised its guidelines for store decorations.

“There has been no change to any policy on this matter and we continue to encourage our store leaders to celebrate with their communities including for U.S. Pride month in June,” the company said last week, adding that it unwaveringly supports the LGBTQ+ community. Local store leaders and employees can make their own decorating decisions within guidelines laid out in the company’s security and safety manuals.

In response to the strike pledges, the company added, “Workers United continues to spread false information about our benefits, policies and negotiation efforts—a tactic used to seemingly divide our partners and deflect from their failure to respond to bargaining sessions for more than 200 stores.”

In a post on its website, Starbucks shared a June 14 letter from its VP of Partner Resources, May Jensen, to Workers United President Lynne Fox demanding the union “cease from knowingly misleading partners.”

Workers United has alleged instances in at least 22 states when workers have not been able to decorate, pointing to social media accounts where workers have documented their claims. The union said it has filed an unfair labor practice charge against Starbucks over what it alleges is a change in policy. Some of the strikes in the coming days are tied to that claim.

Not all of the stores that will strike had issues related to Pride decor.

Some people are just more special than others….

Pedophile Jeffrey Epstein got more than $300 MILLION in tax breaks from US Virgin Islands and it waived sex offender monitoring requirements - as it's revealed he also paid local cops

JPMorgan Chase said the US Virgin Islands gave Jeffrey Epstein more than $300million in tax incentives and waived sex offender monitoring requirements, shielding the disgraced late financier as he gave cash and gifts to top officials and local police.

In a Tuesday court filing, the largest US bank described how Epstein allegedly paid law enforcement entities such as the Virgin Islands Police Department.

The newly unredacted filing is part of JPMorgan's effort to show that the US Virgin Islands, including former first lady Cecile de Jongh, 'actively facilitated' Epstein's sexual abuse of young women and teenage girls.

JPMorgan is defending in federal court against the territory's lawsuit filed in December over its relationship with Epstein, a client from 1998 to 2013.

The US Virgin Islands, where Epstein owned two neighboring islands, has accused JPMorgan of facilitating Epstein's crimes by providing banking services, and enabling him to pay victims.

Iowa weatherman quits, citing PTSD from threats over ‘liberal’ climate coverage

A longtime meteorologist is quitting his job at an Iowa TV station and plans to change careers after viewer backlash over his “liberal conspiracy theory on the weather” led him to seek treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Chris Gloningerannounced Wednesday that he will depart KCCI-TV in Des Moines in July, according to the Washington Post.

The 18-year TV veteran, who joined the CBS affiliate in 2021, told the newspaper he was inundated with “harassing” emails calling him an “idiot” for his “liberal conspiracy theory on the weather” which had him “pushing nothing but a Biden hoax.”

“I was not sleeping,” Gloninger said. “I had bags under my eyes.”

Some of the commenters asked for his address while others vowed to give him “an Iowan welcome you will never forget,” according to the Washington Post.

Another troll angrily urged Gloninger to “go east and drown from the ice cap melting.”

The messages took a toll on Gloninger, who started seeing a therapist and sought treatment for PTSD.

When one of the angry messages appeared in his inbox, he rushed home from the hair salon where his wife was waiting alone and suggested to her that they call the police, according to the Washington Post.

Police in Iowa located a man in the town of Lenox, 63-year-old Danny H. Hancock, who was found to have been the one who sent the threatening messages.

Hancock was slapped with a $150 fine, according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch.

Despite the fact that the source of the threatening messages was pinpointed, Gloninger said he had difficulty refocusing on his job.

Gloninger arrived in Iowa’s state capital after stops at TV stations in Rochester, NY, Albany, NY, Milwaukee and Boston.

Just as he had done at his prior post at NBC 10 Boston, he noted how climate change was affecting the local weather in Des Moines — using material prepared by George Mason Univesrsity professor Ed Maibach.

Ohio moms react to 'vicious' school reporting them to FBI after exposing critical race theory: complaint

EXCLUSIVE – An Ohio school allegedly launched a bullying campaign against two moms, accusing them of being "threats" after they exposed left-wing bias in the school, according to a complaint.

Amy Gonzalez and Andrea Gross said Columbus Academy denied re-enrollment to their children after the parents started asking questions about the school's curriculum and fiduciary compliance matters, according to the complaint filed on June 12. Their requests for transparency were met with an "overreaction" from the administration, the moms said.

"And so when I say an overreaction, I mean an overreaction of calling the police on us, alerting almost 900 faculty members that they had alerted the FBI that we were dangerous. Just things that were so far beyond the pale that it would lead one to ask why? Why is the reaction so extreme?" Gross said.

Gross added the alleged retaliation campaign caused the community to turn against her and her family. The tension was so pervasive, Gross' daughter left the state to go to another school.

"Upon information and belief, the Academy’s vicious treatment of the Parent Plaintiffs, and by relation, their children, including improperly invoking governmental investigative agencies, disseminating false information, and engaging in a coordinated effort to destroy their reputations in the community, was retaliation to prevent any further inquiry financial wrongdoing of the Academy," the complaint said.

The school categorically denied all allegations in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying, "These allegations are entirely without any legal merit or factual basis whatsoever."

The complaint, which was filed in the Court of Common Pleas in Franklin County that seeks compensation for damages, also elaborated on the school environment, which was allegedly hostile to conservative students.

Biden admin takes aim at hunters in latest regulation: 'Preventing Americans from hunting'

The Biden administration announced Thursday that it is moving ahead with prohibitions on the type of equipment hunters are allowed to use on federal refuges, a move strongly opposed by sportsmen groups.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) released its 2023-2024 hunting and fishing rule — an annual plan laying out regulations for the upcoming hunting season — banning cost-effective lead ammunition and fishing tackle across eight national wildlife refuges by 2026. Such an action has been supported by eco groups, but opposed by hunters, who argue that it could serve as a backdoor attack on hunting broadly.

"This is the latest example of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service creating rules that punish hunters, threaten conservation funding and advance special interests without sound scientific evidence that traditional lead ammunition cause is causing detrimental wildlife population impacts," said Lawrence Keane, the senior vice president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

"This administration is ignoring its promise to ‘follow the science.’ In fact, it is ignoring the need for scientific evidence in order to advance an anti-gun and anti-hunting agenda," he continued.
