Mr. Biden: For forty-five years, the United States Supreme Court has recognized that college is free to decide how to build diverse student bodies, and to meet the responsibility of opening doors of opportunity for every single American.

Mr. Biden: I believe our colleges are stronger when they are racially diverse…while talent, creativity, and hard work are everywhere across this country,not equal opportunity, It is not everywhere across this country. Mr. Biden: I propose a new standard, where colleges take into account the adversity a student has overcome when selecting among qualified applicants.

Mr. Biden: Today I'm directing the Department of Education to analyze what practices help build more inclusive and diverse student bodies, and what practices hold that back.

Reporter: The Congressional Black Caucus said the Supreme Court has [inaudible] to question it's own legitimacy. Is this a rogue court?

Jean-Pierre: Since his first days in office, [Biden] has demonstrated his commitment to diversity, creating a government that looks like America, a commitment that extends to the highest levels of his cabinet, and the highest court in the land. For months, the White House has been meeting with civil rights organizations, universities, and legal organizations, to prepare for this decision, in the event the Supreme Court struck down affirmative action.
