Asylum seeker charged with raping a woman just 40 days after arriving in Britain by dinghy

N asylum seeker has been charged with raping a woman in a park — 40 days after he came to Britain by small boat.

The 33-year-old is said to have dragged the alleged victim, whom he did not know, into bushes to attack her.

He arrived in the UK by crossing the Channel, The Sun understands.

His alleged victim was targeted in Skegness, Lincs, a court heard.

The suspect was denied bail in a hearing at Lincoln magistrates’ court this month — and is awaiting his first crown court appearance.

The Government and prosecutors were said to be trying to find out if he held any convictions before sneaking into the UK.

Skegness MP Matt Warman described the allegations as “hugely shocking” and said it “understandably raised a number of significant concerns”.

But he added on social media: “I would ask that people resist the understandable desire to speculate on this case.”

Small boat migrants are being housed in hotels across the UK, as the Government struggles to find enough accommodation.

For more than a year, some have been placed in hotels on Skegness seafront, resulting in protests from residents and businesses.

They fear a difficult summer as tourists cancel their holidays owing to concerns over asylum seekers.

Tomorrow, the Government will hear a crucial court ruling over its controversial plans to send failed asylum seekers to Rwanda.

If the Government wins the case then flights to the African country could begin as early as September.

The Home Office said: “We do not comment on ongoing legal proceedings.”
