I have felt the kidnapping plot was more about a kingpin using the release of JFK Jr to secure the release of some individuals that had been captured belonging one of the cartel organizations.

As for the letter sent to Biden calling him a traitor I do not believe the subject matter included in that letter to be the real reason he had written it.
