Jordan, Egypt, UN slam Jenin operation, as Israeli diplomats scramble to justify it

Amman and Cairo lament escalating aggression against Palestinians, while White House expresses its support for Israel’s right to self defense against terror groups

Jordan and Egypt condemned Israel on Monday for launching a major military operation in the West Bank city of Jenin and its adjoining refugee camp, warning that aggressive actions could escalate the already volatile situation.

The UN humanitarian coordinator also expressed “alarm” over the incursion, with Israeli diplomats around the world told to push explanatory messages of why the army had gone in and what it aimed to achieve.

Over 1,000 IDF troops were said to be involved in the campaign that started early Monday, which appeared to be the largest in the West Bank in years with tensions already sky-high following a series of deadly terror attacks carried out by Palestinians from the Jenin area.

Netanyahu calls US Israel’s ‘irreplaceable ally’ a week after announcing China trip

At US embassy’s July 4th event, PM, who has yet to receive White House invite, thanks Washington for its backing; outgoing envoy Nides hails premier’s commitment to Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu feted the United States as Israel’s “irreplaceable and indispensable ally” at an event ahead of America’s Independence Day, even as his administration plans a trip to US rival China, amid frustration over the White House’s stance toward Jerusalem.

While the prime minister has long hailed the importance of the US-Israel relationship, his remarks at the US embassy’s July 4th party in Jerusalem gained elevated importance, as ties between the two countries have come under particular strain since Netanyahu returned to power six months ago.

US President Joe Biden has held off on inviting Netanyahu to the White House given Washington’s displeasure with the Israeli government’s effort to radically overhaul the judiciary and it also summoned Jerusalem’s envoy in DC for a dressing down over Israel’s policies in the West Bank that have damaged prospects for a two-state solution.

But Israeli and US leaders sought to downplay the rift at the American Independence Day event at Jerusalem’s Israel Museum, where some 2,000 were said to be in attendance.

US Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides, who will be stepping down from his post next week after 19 months, took the opportunity to praise Netanyahu personally. “Your commitment and love for the State of Israel should always, always be commended.”

With Netanyahu staying at home, Herzog will travel to Washington next month to address a joint session of Congress at the invitations of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and his predecessor Nancy Pelosi. The Israeli president is also expected to meet with Biden, though such invitations are traditionally not issued until several days prior.

In his remarks after Nides, Herzog thanked the congressional leaders for their invitation and declared that “Israel has no greater friend than the United States of America.”

“I am looking forward to sharing Israel’s unique story with the American people on behalf of every Israeli… the story of a nation that rose like a phoenix out of the ashes of destruction,” Herzog added.

Netanyahu struck a similar tone, noting that “America has provided Israel with moral and political backing against those who would wipe us out, the only Jewish state.”

“For 75 years, the United States has been our irreplaceable and indispensable ally. Irreplaceable and indispensable,” the prime minister repeated.

Last week, Netanyahu confirmed to visiting US lawmakers that he would be traveling to Beijing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

'Sound of Freedom' scores 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating ahead of July 4 premiere

Sound of Freedom has received a 92 percent rating from critics.

The Sound of Freedom, which opens in theaters Tuesday, has received a 92 percent "fresh" rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 100 percent rating from audiences who have seen the film ahead of opening day.

In a review for Variety, Owen Gleiberman said that "you needn’t hold extreme beliefs to experience 'Sound of Freedom' as a compelling movie that shines an authentic light on one of the crucial criminal horrors of our time, one that Hollywood has mostly shied away from."

Gleiberman wrote that modern media shows drug trafficking in excess, but "Child sex trafficking, by contrast, isn’t a subject that lends itself to 'entertainment.’"

"But as 'Sound of Freedom' informs us, it’s the fastest growing international criminal network the world has ever seen. A closing title states — accurately — that there are more people enslaved now, by sex trafficking, than there were when slavery was legal. And the nightmare lived by captured children is unspeakable, unimaginable…and all too real. Let’s be clear: This matters more than the cocaine or opioids industry," Gleiberman wrote.

The Pauline Center for Media Studies, a project of the Daughters of St. Paul, wrote that "Sound of Freedom plays like an action thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat at the same time as being a drama about Tim's first foray into rescuing trafficked kids. Caviezel's acting is spot on as he expresses Tim's horror at the reality these victims have endured and his determination to liberate them.

"Lucas Avila as Miguel is magnificent at conveying the intense emotion of a trafficking victim coupled with the innocence of a child who just wants his sister back. A troubling aspect of the film, though, is that it makes integration back into 'normal' life after being exploited look too easy."

The high ratings come as the film has surpassed $10 million in presales, with over one million tickets sold.

The film is based on the actions of Tim Ballard, who left his position at the Department of Homeland Security and started Operation Underground Railroad in 2013 to rescue children who had been trafficked around the globe, and stars Jim Caviezel as the lead.

New JFK Record Dump Reveals President Lyndon Johnson Was Thinking to Replace AG Robert Kennedy Just 10 Days After JFK’s Assassination, Files Show Johnson Said NO to Independent Investigations of JFK’s Assassination

It’s already well known President Lyndon B. Johnson and former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy didn’t get along.

There are several accounts of the two bumping heads throughout the 1960s.

However, newly unclassified documents from the latest JFK file dump reveal just ten days after President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the newly sworn-in Johnson “indicated that there should be some cabinet changes.”

While speaking about Cabinet changes, Johnson then proceeded to make reference to the Attorney General at the time Robert F. Kennedy.

President Johnson then switched tones and noted that he was waiting for Bobby Kennedy to decide what role, “if any,” he wished to obtain.

The new document shows that Johnson’s “Let Us Continue Speech” just five days after Kennedy’s assassination was just pure rhetoric.

In the Let Us Continue speech Johnson attempted to persuade key people in the Kennedy administration to stay in office but just five days after his Let Us Continue speech Johnson was already having private conversations about making some “Cabinet Changes.”

In other parts of the same unclassified file, Johnson turned down a request from the Department of Justice suggesting Johnson to allow an independent panel of lawyers and jurists to investigate Kennedy’s assassination.

It was reported Johnson even had “contempt” of the plan for independent investigators to get to the bottom of Kennedy’s assassination.

Louisiana Gov. Vetoes Bill Meant To Shield Children From Transgender Procedures

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, has vetoed a bill that was meant to protect children from transgender gender-change surgeries and other procedures like giving kids cross-sex hormones.

House Bill 648, known as the “Stop Harming Our Kids Act,” was passed by the Republican-controlled state legislature along party lines in early June.

The bill sought to prohibit hormone treatments for minors as well as puberty-blocking drugs and gender reassignment surgery, such as giving girls who identify as boys double mastectomies, which critics have decried as a form of mutilation.

“If HB 648 doesn’t become law, we will be sending a horrible message to our children,” Louisiana state Sen. Jeremy Stine, a Republican, wrote on Twitter after the bill’s passage and as questions swirled around whether it would receive a veto.

“This isn’t complicated. Our kids deserve to know that they are loved, valued, and perfect just as God created them,” the Republican lawmaker added.

Stine’s fear that the bill would get nixed before it entered into force became a reality on June 29, when the Louisiana governor said in a letter (pdf) that he had vetoed it.

Some had held out hopes that Edwards wouldn’t veto HB 648 because in the prior legislative session, he decided not to block a law banning transgender-identifying athletes from taking part in women and girls’ sports competitions.

However, Edwards’ six-page veto letter made clear his opposition to the “Stop Harming Our Kids Act,” which he called “ironic” because he claimed “that is precisely what it does.”

‘Ripe For a Veto’

Edwards’ letter was addressed to Clay Schexnayder, the Republican Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives.

In it, Edwards said the bill threatens specialists’ professional licenses, removes parental rights in healthcare decisions for children with gender dysphoria, and generally amounts to a “targeted assault” on kids suffering psychologically from a “gender crisis.”

Western Leaders Have Effectively Embraced Ukrainian Nazism

As all wars do, the war in Ukraine has produced volumes of propaganda. The most popular theme is that Volodymyr Zelensky (genetically Jewish but without any Jewish religious or cultural ties) opposes the “Hitler-like” Putin. Indeed, Zelensky has accused Putin of Hitler-esque antisemitism, a claim that garners support from American Jews and the media. Israelis, however, do not support this assertion. They know the truth, which is that Ukraine has deep roots in Naziism, a relationship Ukraine celebrates to this day.

During the Holocaust, approximately 800,000 Ukrainian Jews were murdered, many by their fellow countrymen who saw the Nazis as liberators from Soviet oppression. The Nazis arrived just a few years after the Holomodor, which saw Joseph Stalin’s policies lead to the deaths of between five and seven million Ukrainians.

Because many Jews thought communism would save them from Christian and Tsarist depredations, they allied themselves with the communists, leading Ukrainians to blame all Jews for the Holodomor. The Ukrainians, therefore, were only too happy to join the Nazis in murdering their Jewish neighbors.

To this day, with all that is known about Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany, many Ukrainians still view the Nazis as liberators. The Soviet Union may be gone, but Ukrainian and Western leaders have channeled hatred once reserved for the Soviet Union has been channeled into hatred for Russia. As part of this anti-Russian mindset, Western leaders and their loyal press corps have helped legitimize Nazism by willfully ignoring the fact that they bankroll a Nazi army that fights the Russians.

For decades, the Soviet occupation held Ukrainian Nazism in check. That ended in 1991 with the Soviet Union’s dissolution, followed by Ukraine’s independence from Russia. Politically, Ukraine has had a strong mix of ethnic Ukrainians and Russians. There were always tensions, but the current instability resulted from Western interference, especially from America and England. When Victoria Nuland orchestrated a 2014 coup against the legitimate government led by ethnic Russian Viktor Yanukovych, that unleashed the powerful Nazi element that had lain dormant for so long in Ukraine.

The first evidence of a Nazi resurgence occurred just after the 2014 coup. To deal with protesters, the government unleashed their Nazi Azov militia. The militia was called in because Ukraine military regulars would not do what the Azov did.

Writing at Consortium News in May 2014, Robert Parry recounted the roundup of ethnic Russians who were protesting the overthrow of the Yanukovych government. According to Parry, on May 2, in the port city of Odessa, the Azov militia herded the Russians into buildings that were then set ablaze, killing 40 people. Afterward, reporters spotted graffiti on walls with Swastika-like symbols honoring the “Galician SS,” the Ukrainian adjunct to the German SS in World War II. The Azov military repeated this barbaric action on May 9 in Mariupol, another port city.

In 2016, Kiev, Ukraine’s capital city, renamed two streets in honor of Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych. Both men were among numerous Ukrainians who collaborated with the Nazis, including volunteering with the SS. Bandera and Shukhevych were complicit in the mass murderers of Jews and Poles but are celebrated as anti-communist heroes in Ukraine. In 2019, a Ukrainian court ruled against the honor accorded these Nazis, at which point Kiev’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, announced on Facebook that he would appeal the ruling. (As of now, the ruling does not appear to have been overturned.)

Queensland bank tells customer she can’t withdraw cash

A Queensland mum was left stunned after her bank told her she could not withdraw cash. It’s a sign of a much bigger problem.

A fed-up mum has cut ties with ANZ and lashed out online after being told she was unable to withdraw cash from her local branch.

Brisbane woman Taryn Comptyn revealed she had visited her local branch to withdraw $3,500 to pay for renovations on her home.

When she arrived she realised she had forgotten her bank card, so she went inside in a bid to withdraw the lump sum using a teller.

In a video shared on social media, Comptyn said she thought it would be “fine” to “just go to the teller” with ID.

But she was shocked to learn thattellers had no access to cash whatsoeverand the only way to withdraw funds was via the ATM.

Things got worse from there.

The ANZ teller offered to set Comptyn up with a temporary card but when she tried to use it at the ATM she was greeted by an error message.

“(The teller) said, ‘I am really sorry, there is nothing we can do’,” Comptyn recalled.

Frustrated, she told the teller “I need to get my money out of my bank account,” to which the teller responded apologetically, “We don’t carry cash here.”

Comptyn said she made a quick decision to transfer every cent from her ANZ account into an account she holds with a different bank.

She immediately closed her accounts with ANZ.

Comptyn’s social media post struck a chord with many, garnering almost 40,000 viewers in five days.

AI Companies Negotiate Landmark Deals To Train Chatbots On MSM News

When the creators of AI chatbots such as ChatGPT or Google's Bard want to 'teach' them about the world in order to accurately answer questions, they use various news and social media sources to 'scrape' content which then 'trains' said models. This is why Twitter owner Elon Musk just began throttling accounts which consume a massive amount of content on a daily basis - as it became a free and valuable resource for engineers.

It's also why AI can be 'woke' - as it all depends on the data it's being trained on, which as we've seen, can bias the chatbot towards the political ideology of its creators (for which loopholes were quickly discovered).

Now, the Financial Times reports that the world's largest tech companies are negotiation with major media outlets to strike landmark deals for the use of news content to train AI chatbots.

These people said that publishers including News Corp, Axel Springer, The New York Times and The Guardian have each been in discussions with at least one of the tech companies.

Those involved in the discussions, which remain in the early stages, added that the deals could involve media organisations being paid a subscription-style fee for their content in order to develop the technology underpinning chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.

The talks come as media groups express concern over the threat to the industry posed by the rise of AI, as well as fears over the use of their content by OpenAI and Google without deals in place. Some companies such as Stability AI and OpenAI are facing legal action from artists, photo agencies and coders, who allege contractual and copyright infringement. -FT

According to News Corp CEO Robert Thomson, the media industry's "collective IP is under threat," for which news outlets should "argue vociferously for compensation."

In short - use their content to train your AI without paying, get sued.

Current discussions have revolved around a pricing model in the $5 million to $20 million per year level, according to one industry exec.

According to Thomson, AI was "designed so the reader will never visit a journalism website, thus fatally undermining that journalism."

The negotiations, if successful, would establish a blueprint for news organizations dealing with generative AI companies worldwide.
