Anons, I have a question about freedom on this great day of independence.

It is commonly said that any supposed "right" that requires the labor of another cannot be a right–and I have always believed this to be logical.

However, someone recently said this is nonesense because all rights require the labor of law enforcement (judges, police, ect) to uphold your rights. Otherwise they're meaningless words.

I told this person that force is the key factor here. Police and judges decided to work for the state, they weren't forced to. And if healthcare, for example, became a "right" then doctors would suddenly have no choice but to work for the state.

They said that wasn't true since private practice is still a thing in most places that have public health care. They maintain that healthcare could be a right because only the doctors who choose to work fo the state would work for the state.

I'm not sure what to think about that. What say you?
