He lost his re-election bid soon after that. Repubs in DC were not happy with him and his candidness.
Well now that this nothingburger is global news, they will either find out it was some low-level WH staffer and put him/her through the ringer, or, if it's a higher profile person, it will quickly be swept under the rug. In either case, it amounts to NOTHING.
