While technically correct the distance is so negligible that in celestial navigation they are assumed to be equidistant. Something else is happening.
At higher latitudes the sunlight passes through more air because of the angle. Attenuation, length of day, or filtering of frequencies are more likely. It would be interesting to compare the spectrum and maybe get a handle of light frequencies we could put indoors to do the same.
