Without doing a real close comparison, the 2nd pic Q posted tonight also appears to match the other May 2nd pic. (Not posted ATM)

Planes have radios as well as radar transponders that send digital messages.

The 4-digit message sent by the transponder is called a squawk.

Usually the squawk is just an identifier set by air traffic control.

There are some emergency squawks.

7700 is one of them. It means hijacking.

 

However I don't believe this article. We are seeing the confusion of contradictory stories that occurs when the real truth of a situation is to be hidden.
