The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) oversight hearing on July 13 was quite the spectacle. Typically, these congressional events are hebetudinous affairs, but both sides of the aisle put together several hours of entertainment for viewers. Democrats accused their opponents of racism. Republicans called FTC Chair Lina Khan “a bully” and “a disaster.” The agency chief evaded questions, stuck to talking points, and concealed the entity’s true motives. For concerned citizens who tuned in, they might have regretted not warming up the popcorn.

As many Republicans on the committee alluded to, a lot of the legislative and regulatory pushes have been a detriment to the marketplace. But this might be the summary of the agency. Whether it is Lina Khan or somebody else, this is the FTC’s mandate.

Nude Videos of Kids From Hacked Baby Monitors Were Sold on Telegram
An explosive report from IPVM, a surveillance industry trade publication, found that child sexual abuse material sourced from hundreds of hacked Hikvision cameras is being sold on Telegram. The report states that hackers likely gained access to insecure Hikvision cameras by exploiting weak or known passwords, and then used the company’s mobile app to distribute access to the feeds.
IPVM found messages in Telegram channels that advertise access to the hacked cameras using terms like “cp” (child porn), “kids room,” “family room,” and “bedroom of a young girl” to entice potential buyers. Telegram has since taken down the channels, some of which had thousands of members.
Telegram has long been criticized for lax content moderation. In 2021, a nonprofit called the Coalition for a Safer Web sued Apple and demanded that the company remove Telegram from its App Store, citing the app’s failure to remove violent and extremist content.
Hikvision’s response was adversarial. “Hikvision knows nothing about these potential crimes,” the company said in a statement. “IPVM’s selfish decision to seek comment from us prior to alerting authorities is highly questionable and, in this instance, disgraceful.”

EXCLUSIVE: Fingerprints Found on Cocaine Bag at White House, Security Sources Say
Officials at the White House know who handled a packet of cocaine that was found inside the Executive Mansion, and have confirmed that finding via fingerprint evidence, according to sources with direct knowledge of the investigation.
“We know who handled it,” one security source said. “We’ve known since last week.”
Two sources disclosed the name of the person who is believed to have handled the packet. Soldier of Fortune is withholding the name pending official confirmation.
Agents with the U.S. Secret Service found “suspicious white powder” inside the White House on July 2, prompting an emergency evacuation while tests were performed on the powder. A lab test proved that the white substance was cocaine.
Another test brought back a hit on fingerprints, the security source said.
The results came in quickly on the fingerprints because the sample was sent to a unit that gets results within 24 hours.
Soldier of Fortune on Wednesday filed formal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests with three agencies that are likeliest to know about the fingerprint results. The agencies are the Washington, D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department; the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia; and the U.S. Secret Service.
Representatives from the Secret Service, meanwhile, will meet on Thursday morning with the House Oversight Committee to discuss the cocaine incident, according to Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
The committee chairman, James Comer (R-KY) last week asked Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to provide “a staff level briefing” on the cocaine issue by July 14.
“The presence of illegal drugs in the White House is unacceptable and a shameful moment in the White House’s history,” Comer wrote in his July 7 letter to Cheatle.
In the letter, Comer did not mention fingerprints.
Federal rules regarding FOIA requests gives the agencies until Aug. 1 to respond to the request from Soldier of Fortune.

Less than 24 hours after Soldier of Fortune reported that investigators found fingerprints on a packet of cocaine that was abandoned inside the White House, the U.S. Secret service announced on Thursday that it will close down the investigation for lack of leads.
The announcement directlycontradicts what my trusted sourcestold me and continue to say.
The timing of the July 13 announcement from the Secret Service is curious. The agency could have said last week that neither fingerprints nor DNA evidence were found on the cocaine packet. Instead, officials waited to reveal that information until after Soldier of Fortune wrote that the evidence exists.
I stand by our report. I restate the findings, below.
