Giant oarfish, believed to be a 'harbinger of earthquakes', spotted in Taiwan

 

A group of divers had an unexpected encounter when they came across a massive oarfish with unique openings in its body.

 

The appearance of an oarfish has long been associated with the notion of earthquakes.

 

These creatures are often found at depths ranging from 656 to 3,200 feet below the ocean's surface.

 

According to a superstition in Japanese mythology, the oarfish emerges from the depths and rises to the surface prior to an impending earthquake.
