Read the book "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell, PHD. ( i bought it through Amazaon, at the "used price" of $4-6, not the brand new price. Well-worth the investment.)
It proves, through various study's, that an animal-based diet is the cause of 95% of the illnesses and diseases known today.
Switching to a plant based diet can prevent and turn around 90% of these issues, including reducing or eliminating the medicines associated with said illness/disease. The study further shows that an animal based protein can turn on Cancer cells, and switching to reduced animal based proteins or a plant based protein diet can TURN OFF or inhibint cancer growth, and even reduce cancerous tumors. (You are not 'feeding' the cancer cells) This book is well worth the read.
Also check into Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., author of "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease". Dr. Esselstyn is a world renowned cardiologist that reversed heart disease in 18 of his own known/confirmed heart attack patients simply by switching the patients to a plant based diet. AFter 5+ years, 17/18 had reduced/removed all meds; the remaining patient went off the program and had several more heart attacks and finally resumed the plant based eating program. And the Pharma/medical/Beef community STILL refuse to admit that the American diet (high in fat, cholesterol, meat, dairy and eggs) is responsible for the rise in heart attacks, diabetes, strokes and the majority of illnesses we see on the rise today. While they continue to lobby and panhandle for money for treatments, they fail to look at the root cause: what we eat. They are all too happy to sell more meds, do more surgery's than promote what the study's prove: a plant based protein diet is infinitely more effective at healing than an animal based protein diet.
