Jacob Daskal pleaded guilty on July 14, 2023 to transporting a child with the intent to commit sexual crimes. Today's proceedings took place before United States District Judge Nicholas G. Garoufis. As part of his guilty plea, the defendant agreed to a sentence of approximately 14 to 17 and a half years in prison. As part of the plea, Daskal must register as a sex offender.
Brian Pies, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York announced the guilty plea.
"The defendant admitted that he abused his power, trust and position within the community by committing lewd acts against a child in his care," said United States Attorney Fies. "We want suffering victims everywhere to hear this guilty plea as our office's ongoing declaration that no one is above the law and we will bring to justice those who harm our children."
Mr. Pies expressed his gratitude to the Federal Bureau of Investigation ('Federal Bureau of Investigation'), New York Field Office, the Kings County District Attorney's Office and the New York City Police Department.
As alleged in court documents, the defendant was the head of Borough Park Shevra Shumarim (the "Guards"), a private, Orthodox Jewish conservation group affiliated with the New York Police Department. In the spring of 2017, the suspect, using his position in the guards, contacted a 15-year-old girl, whom he brought into his home and persuaded her and made her ready for sex. Between August and November 2017, the defendant, who was then 58 years old, committed sexual acts on the 15-year-old victim.
Throughout the summer of 2017, the sexual conduct occurred primarily at Daskal Inderheim's home in Brooklyn, New York, and at his summer home in South Fallsburg, New York. The defendant often transported the victim between the two places traveling through New Jersey. At the end of August, the defendant, together with his family and the victim, returned full-time to his house in Brooklyn, where the abuse continued. As the school year began, the defendant helped the victim find a new school in Chicago, Illinois, and in October 2017, she moved to attend school and live with another family. While the victim was in Chicago, the defendant communicated with her through text messages and Skype video chat. On or about November 5, 2017, the defendant traveled to Chicago for a day to visit the deceased. The defendant rented a hotel room in Chicago, and brought the victim to the hotel for sexual intercourse.
