Academic Black Eye: Stanford President Resigns After His Alzheimerā€™s Research Failed ā€˜Standards of Scientific Rigorā€™

Stanford Presidet Marc Tessier-Lavigne

Stanford University President Marc Tessier-Lavigne announced Wednesday that he will resign after an independent review of his Alzheimerā€™s disease research found significant flaws, going back decades. A report said that his work had ā€œmultiple problemsā€ and ā€œfell below customary standards of scientific rigor.ā€

The review found that an important 2009 Alzheimerā€™s study had multiple problemsā€ and ā€œfell below customary standards of scientific rigor and process,ā€ especially for a paper of such potential consequences, according to a report by the New York Times.

The panel of scientists who conducted the review, however, refuted the most serious allegation made against Tessier-Lavigneā€™s work, which was that the Alzheimerā€™s study was the subject of an investigation that found falsified data, and that Tessier-Lavigne had covered it up.

As a result of the review, Tessier-Lavigne said he will retract a 1999 paper that appeared in the peer-reviewed journal Cell, as well as two other papers that appeared in Science in 2001.

Additionally, two other papers published in Nature, including the 2009 Alzheimerā€™s study, will reportedly undergo a ā€œcomprehensive correction.ā€

In their review, the panel of scientists also found multiple instances of images in papers that had been duplicated or spliced, but concluded that Tessier-Lavigne had not participated in the manipulation and was not aware of them at the time. As Bretbart News has previously reported, fraud in Alzheimerā€™s research has been a considerable problem.

While this research had been published before Tessier-Lavigne arrived at Stanford in 2016, the results of the review nonetheless damages the reputation of the university, which is known for being a leader in scientific research.

ā€œI expect there may be ongoing discussion about the report and its conclusions, at least in the near term, which could lead to debate about my ability to lead the university into the new academic year,ā€ Tessier-Lavigne said in a statement.

Tessier-Lavigne is set to officially resign from president of the university in August. He will, however, remain at Stanford as a biology professor.

Meanwhile, Stanford has chosen Richard Saller, a professor of European studies, to be the universityā€™s interim president, starting September 1.

He knew they manipulated the data

Exclusive ā€” Sound of Freedom Producer on Beating Hollywood: Disney, Netflix, Amazon Rejected Us

Disney, Netflix, Amazon, and other studios rejected Sound of Freedom, producer Eduardo VerƔstegui told Breitbart News during an exclusive interview at the Turning Point Action Conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, over the weekend, giving glory to God for His faithfulness and the success of the movie.

VerĆ”stegui detailed the movieā€™s journey in an interview with Breitbart News days ahead of former President Donald Trump hosting a viewing of the box office surprise at his club in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Wednesday.

ā€œFirst of all, I am so grateful for what is happening. Just, you know,I feel like Iā€™m dreaming. And Iā€™m afraid to wake up because this is a dream. Itā€™s been a beautiful dream,ā€ he said, explaining how he and the director of the film, Alejandro Monteverde, ultimately teamed up to create a production company. He said it has been eight years since they met Tim Ballard, whom the movie is based on, and they knew they needed to do the film because of the global child trafficking problem.

ā€œAs you know, USA is the number-one consumer of child sex in the world. Mexico is the number-one provider. I love Mexico; I love America. We need to make America and Mexico free again. We need a movement. This movie will start a movement ā€¦ we just didnā€™t know how and when,ā€ he said, explaining they finished the film a few years ago. However, Disney ultimately acquired 21st Century Fox, and those he made a deal with previously left.

ā€œSo now in this way, I show the movie to them finished and they told me this movie is not for us,ā€ he said, asserting that he asked for the movie back.

They negotiated for a year, and he said he took the movie out of Disney and began ā€œknocking on doors with Netflix, Amazon, and other studios,ā€ all of whom rejected it.

ā€œSome of them, they just didnā€™t even answer my phone calls,ā€ he said, adding, ā€œWe sent hundreds and hundreds of messages from different people. Nothing.ā€

He said he prayed and asked God to ā€œsend some angels to rescue this video.ā€

ā€œIā€™m not giving up because this movie is about saving lives. But itā€™s been eight years now since we started this project. Itā€™s a long time. And then Angel Studios show up,ā€ he said, explaining how they chose July 4 as the release date ā€œbecause if the U.S. is the number one consumer of child sex, we need to shake the conscience of this country on July 4.ā€

ā€œLetā€™s do something to bring freedom back to those children that are not free,ā€ he said, explaining that they were facing a challenge due to the fact that they were facing films like Disney-backed Indiana Jones.

ā€œHumanly speakingā€ it was impossible to survive, he said, but he added, ā€œGodā€™s children are not for sale. If God is with us, who can be against us?ā€

ā€œI never imagined in a million years that we beat Indiana Jones on July 4. Weā€™re the number one movie in America,ā€ he added.

God Bless and Protect everyone involved with this movie
