After George Floyd, corporate America rushed to embrace diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies that used to be limited to liberal college campuses.

 

Now that everyone is being squeezed by the Biden economy and inflation however, there isn’t as much extra cash floating around in these companies.

 

When it comes to the bottom line, DEI policies are just another unnecessary expense.

 

DEI Officers Are ‘Questioning Their Career Path’ as Demand Falls: Report

 

Corporate officers focused on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion are feeling “left out in the cold” as demand for their roles plummets, according to a Wall Street Journal report Friday.

 

Demand to fill DEI roles is hitting new lows. Jason Hanold, chief executive of Hanold Associates Executive Search, told the Journal searches for chief diversity officers are down 75 percent in the past year, hitting the lowest he has seen in his 30-year recruiting career. Diversity officers were especially vulnerable during a tech world firing spree last fall, facing 40 percent higher turnover than human resources positions.

Biden invites CIA boss to join cabinet

 

US President Joe Biden has tapped CIA Director William Burns to become a member of his cabinet, underscoring the official’s significant influence in the White House and his key role in American foreign policy.

 

The president announced the decision on Friday, saying Burns has given the United States a “critical strategic advantage” and helped to tackle “our nation’s top national security challenges,” including dealings with Russia and China.

 

Burns perviously served as the US ambassador to Russia under President George W. Bush, and later held senior positions in the State Department during the Barack Obama administration, frequently dealing with Russia policy. In 2008, he penned a memo to his superiors warning that NATO membership for Ukraine would stoke “serious concerns about the consequences of stability in the region,” and potentially set off a “civil war” in the country. Citing several national security experts, the official said Ukraine was the greatest “destabilizing factor in US-Russian relations,” predicting a major response by Moscow.

 

“Bill has always given me clear, straightforward analysis that prioritizes the safety and security of the American people, reflecting the integral role the CIA plays in our national security decision-making at this critical time,” Biden added.

US creates permanent pandemic agency

The US government has launched a new agency to prepare for pandemics and other “biological threats,” with President Joe Biden tapping a retired Air Force general to spearhead the project.

 

The White House announced the creation of the Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy (OPPR) on Friday. The agency will be tasked with devising a response to public health crises, coordinating scientific research and medical efforts against pandemics, and providing regular reports to Congress.

 

“This will be a permanent office in the Executive Office of the President charged with leading, coordinating, and implementing actions related to preparedness for, and response to, known and unknown biological threats or pathogens,” the White House said in a press release.

Sharks off the coast of Florida could be consuming cocaine dropped in the ocean by drug smugglers, US researchers have found. That’s as the US Coast Guard claims to have seized as much as 6,400 kilograms (14,109 pounds) of cocaine in the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean over just the past month.

 

Researchers working on the Discovery Channel’s upcoming TV series ‘Cocaine Sharks’ told LiveScience on Thursday that they have found that some sharks have been behaving strangely in the area and ran a number of experiments on sharks off the Florida keys, where fishermen have reportedly come across drug-addicted fish.
