Most references say that the word Ozark was derived from local Indians, but the local Indians are the Osage.
If you go with Hebrew root words, things start to make more sense.
oz = strength
ark = safe place or container
Ozark = safe place of strength
age = state of being
Osage = oz-age = in strong condition.
All kinds of places with "ark/arc" in the name.
ansas = truss or support, so Arkansas = "place of support", or with all the timber "safe/reliable place to find supports"
dia = pass through.
There are towns named Arcadia all over the country.
