A desperate search has been launched after a paddleboarder went missing in the water off Martha's Vineyard - near Barack Obama's sprawling $12million estate.

The man, 43, disappeared while he was out on the water in the vicinity of Turkeyland Cove with another paddleboarder - and a joint-agency search is underway at Edgartown Great Pond to find him.

Witnesses told police they saw the man go under the water, briefly reappear while struggling to stay afloat, before submerging again around 7.46pm yesterday.

It's understood that the 911 call and dispatch address for the incident came from Obama's Martha's Vineyard home. It's unclear if he is currently staying at the estate.

The US Coast Guard, Edgartown Fire, Air Wing, detectives, and Dukes County Sheriff’s Department are all part of the rescue mission - which resumed on Monday.
