The US Virgin Islands unveiled new accusations against JPMorgan Chase over the bank’s ties to former client Jeffrey Epstein, including executives discussing how the disgraced late financier surrounded himself with “nymphettes.”

JPMorgan countered that the US Virgin Islands was also to blame for allowing Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women and teenage girls, saying the territory used its powers to enable these crimes.

The bank accused the territory of facilitating visas that allowed Epstein to bring victims, and of “looking the other way” whenever Epstein arrived at local airports accompanied by young women and girls.

Both sets of accusations were made in dueling Monday night filings in Manhattan federal court.

The US Virgin Islands is suing JPMorgan for at least $190 million, saying the bank ignored red flags about Epstein because he was a wealthy and lucrative client from 1998 to 2013.

Ahead of a scheduled Oct. 23 trial, the US Virgin Islands wants a judge to declare that JPMorgan participated in Epstein’s sex trafficking and obstructed law enforcement.

Its filings include many new details about the New York-based bank’s alleged conduct, including more than $25 million of payments to Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and hundreds of thousands of dollars paid to Epstein’s victims.

They also quoted a Sept 2012 email from a senior JPMorgan executive to Mary Erdoes, now the bank’s asset and wealth management chief, comparing another client’s house to Epstein’s.

“Reminded me of JE’s house, except it was more tasteful, and fewer nymphettes,” the executive wrote. “More like the Frick [museum]. Art was fabulous.”

“Wow,” Erdoes responded.

JPMorgan, in contrast, wants the judge to declare that the US Virgin Islands’ should not be able to seek monetary relief, and that the territory’s claim the bank obstructed law enforcement be denied.

The bank has already faulted the US Virgin Islands for having a cozy relationship with Epstein, where top officials gave him tax breaks and waived sex-offender monitoring requirements in exchange for cash and gifts.

Epstein had owned two private islands within the territory, and allegedly bought the second to keep people from spying on his sexual abuses on the first.

The US Virgin Islands has already received more than $105 million from Epstein’s estate, and reached a settlement with billionaire Leon Black, a former Epstein friend.

JPMorgan agreed last month to pay $290 million to settle a separate lawsuit by dozens of Epstein accusers.

Epstein died by suicide in August 2019 in a Manhattan jail while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

The case is US Virgin Islands v. JPMorgan Chase Bank NA, US District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 22-10904.

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said Monday that Democrats and the media were running out of “maneuvering room” over bribery allegations involving President Joe Biden.

Internal Revenue Service whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler testified during a Wednesday hearing held by the House Oversight Committee on the criminal probe into Hunter Biden about alleged interference with the investigation by the Justice Department. Republican Sen. Charles Grassley released the FD-1023 form containing allegations that the Bidens received millions of dollars in bribes obtained from a whistleblower Thursday.

“I think that there is almost a panic setting in the media. They all want to move on because the alternative is to recognize one of the most significant corruption scandals in modern history, but it’s something the media played a role in suppressing, so they want everyone to move on,” Turley told “America Reports” co-host John Roberts. “That’s just not going to happen. The evidence is mounting. You had these two whistleblowers testify in Congress and you’ll notice the Democrat members asked very little about their specific allegations.”

“Bribery is the second crime mentioned in the impeachment clause,” Turley told Roberts earlier. “Whenever you see that word it raises very serious implications for a sitting president. And what’s really troubling, John, is that these denials by the president were not only made when he was running for the presidency, but have continued during the presidency.”

Days after a House hearing on censorship that saw Democrats attempt to prevent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from testifying, a new Harvard-Harris poll showed that he has a higher favorability rating than any other presidential candidate.

Mr. Kennedy has a favorable rating of 47 percent and a unfavorable mark of 26 percent, according to the survey, which was released on July 23 and conducted from July 19 to July 20 among 2,068 registered voters.

Former President Donald Trump has a favorability rating of 45 percent compared with a 49 percent unfavorability number. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has a 40 percent favorable rating and 37 percent unfavorable, and President Joe Biden has 39 percent favorable and 53 percent unfavorable ratings.

According to the survey, Mr. Trump would defeat Mr. Biden in a general election 45 percent to 40 percent.

The former president would top vice president Kamala Harris 47 percent to 38 percent, the poll showed.

The survey didn’t indicate what would happen in a head-to-head matchup between Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Trump.

Dismissed as a longshot candidate by many political pundits, Mr. Kennedy also had the highest net favorability of all 2024 presidential candidates in a June poll from The Economist/YouGov.

Mr. Kennedy was viewed favorably by 49 percent of the respondents and unfavorably by 30 percent, which translates to a net favorability rating of 19.

Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump had 45 percent and 43 percent, respectively, of the respondents view them in a favorable way.

Mr. Biden’s net favorability rating was minus 7, and Mr. Trump’s was minus 10.

Bipartisan Support

Mr. Kennedy continues to draw bipartisan support in his campaign.

A July 20 House Judiciary Committee hearing examining the federal government’s role in censoring Americans was marked by explosive exchanges between Democrats and Republicans about Mr. Kennedy’s comments on vaccines and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Kennedy was a star witness at the hearing on the weaponization of the federal government.

Republicans defended Mr. Kennedy and said the Democrats’ outcry over his presence at the hearing amounted to censorship. Democrats criticized Republicans for giving Mr. Kennedy a “megaphone” to talk about his views on vaccines.

Mr. Kennedy also defended himself against claims that he made anti-Semitic remarks at a recent event.

In a secretly recorded video leaked to the media, Mr. Kennedy can be heard describing research that reported that the COVID-19 virus disproportionately affected Caucasian and black people while being comparably mild for Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese people, who Mr. Kennedy suggested had a stronger immune response to the virus. Mr. Kennedy also said that bioweapons could potentially be designed to harm certain ethnic groups over others.

Democrats and other critics of Mr. Kennedy condemned the comments as “racist” and “ant-Semitic.”

Mr. Kennedy has vehemently denied the allegations. On Twitter, he wrote that he “never, ever suggested that the COVID-19 virus was targeted to spare Jews” and called for a newspaper article on the video, which he said was “false, underhanded, and inflammatory,” to be retracted.
