Money is ascribed value. All societies have been proven to come up wiht the concept of money after enough time because it provides a lowest common denominator for goods and services.
Is it a figment of our imagination? Yes.
It doesn't mean we are dumb or easily manipulated. It means we are capable of abstract thought - to realize the need for a lowest common denominator (math, an abstract thought). By capitalizing on that abstract thought we have been able to build society.
Can you "ignore" money? Sure, but you necessarily ostracize or excize yourself from society in doing so. Money is the glue of society, allowing in it's most basic use, two men to make a fair trade; the cornerstone of a free and open society (Mises not Soros).
