CN Rail says eight grain cars derailed just after midnight at the Front Street overpass. No one was hurt and there’s no need for hazmat teams to be called in.

Crews are on scene inspecting the damage, and have begun the process of re-railing the affected cars.

A caller to NEWS 1130 says he heard a loud bang early Wednesday morning, and then saw police cars and fire trucks race to the scene a few moments later.

There’s no word on what caused the derailment, but CN Rail confirms there is no threat to the public.

Train disruptions

Meantime, trains between Seattle and Vancouver are also being affected by the derailment.

In an emailed statement to NEWS 1130, Amtrak says the railroad is “temporarily closed between Seattle and Vancouver.”

“So Trains 516 & 517 are canceled to and from Vancouver. Train 517 will originate instead in Seattle,” the statement reads. “Scheduled Amtrak Thruway buses will service as substitute transportation.”

On Amtrak’s website, trains scheduled for service between Vancouver and Seattle show a status of “unavailable due to a service disruption.”
