Emily Glass’ death from a gunshot wound to the head — two weeks after she led a private investigator to the body of 5-year-old Lucas Hernandez — has been ruled a suicide, her autopsy report says.
Glass, 27, was a live-in girlfriend who cared for the Wichita boy while his father was out of town working. Wichita police are still investigating Lucas’ death and Glass’ death. Police have said Glass' body was found with a gun near her feet and that her death was reported as a suicide.
The autopsy report, filed in Sedgwick County District Court on Tuesday, said that Glass’ body tested positive for marijuana use but negative for alcohol and other drugs.
Her gunshot wound was “midline of the forehead,” and the path of the bullet was front to back, the report said.
“Notes of suicidal intent at the scene,” the report noted. She also had “scars consistent with remote self-injury/cutting on the left forearm.”
Early June 8, Glass’ boyfriend, Jonathan Hernandez, went to the rental house where she was living. It is the same South Edgemoor house from which she had reported Lucas missing on Feb. 17.
Hernandez found Glass on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle between her legs, the report says.
Lucas was reported missing by Glass on Feb. 17. At the time, she told police that the boy went missing from his bedroom while she was taking an afternoon nap. Police said they didn’t believe Lucas left on his own and that there was no sign he was abducted. On May 24, Emily Glass led a private investigator to Lucas' body, which was found hidden underneath a rural Harvey County bridge, police said.
