It is a complicated story with very many different levels of meaning. you take it out of context.
also you ignore that the story is a fable, of sorts, and also it was crafted within the traditions that you seem to ignore, a lot of other traditions that are woven through the story.
Having just a literal reading of it ignores the symbolism and the nuances of meaning that the story contains. You let youself imagine things that are unfair.
saying 'a prick' shows what you think about the whole old testament and, with that point of view how could you ever get the inspiration to pluck pearls of wisdom from scripture. Those pearls would be available to you except you're predetermining the characters as being 'bad' and judging them all right from the start of the book without reading on and interpreting in in light of all the other stories that are also included in that book.
