Same with the Kennedy Half Dollar. He had just started us back on the path to backing our currency with silver when he was assassinated for it in 1963. In 1964 they commemorate him on the (90%) silver half dollar. In 1965 they "demonitized" all our coinage save for the half, and they reduced the silver content to 40%, and it was entirely eliminated in 1971. A real F. U. to his memory from the money changers. Shows who's boss, eh?
