New Hampshire woman and her child kidnapped in Haiti, organization confirms

The kidnapping happened on Thursday near the organization's Port-au-Prince campus

A woman originally from New Hampshire and her child were kidnapped in Haiti, a Port-au-Prince organization confirmed Saturday.

"We can confirm that Alix Dorsainvil, our Director’s wife, and their child were kidnapped on the morning of Thursday, July 27th from our campus near Port au Prince while serving in our community ministry," said Jason Brown, president of El Roi Haiti, confirming to WMUR that Dorsainvil is from New Hampshire.

A friend told WMUR that Alix is from Middleton, and that Alix was kidnapped alongside her daughter. She also said that Alix is a graduate of Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts.

Alix is a "deeply compassionate and loving person," Brown said, adding that she "considers Haiti her home and the Haitian people her friends and family."

"Alix has worked tirelessly as our school and community nurse to bring relief to those who are suffering as she loves and serves the people of Haiti in the name of Jesus," he said.

The kidnapping happened on Thursday, Brown said, on the organization's campus where Alix had been serving the community near Port au Prince.

The organization is asking for privacy as they pray for their safe return.

WMUR previously confirmed with the U.S. Department of State that they were monitoring reports that two Americans have been kidnapped in Haiti.

Officials told WMUR they are in regular contact with law enforcement officers in Haiti as they learn more about what happened there.

They said they have also been in contact with other partners across the U.S. government.

On Thursday, the state department ordered all U.S. government workers in Haiti to leave the country as soon as possible. They have issued a “do not travel advisory” for all Americans considering going to Haiti.

They warn there are significant risks of kidnapping and crime.

They said those kidnappings can involve ransom negotiations and that Americans have been physically hurt by these attacks.

Families have even had to pay thousands of dollars to rescue their loved ones.
