hey anon.

don't know that you're wrong, but this has been looked into before.

the board does this weird thing with repeated characters.

.

..

three periods in a row turns into an ellipses.

so while Q might have typed 22 periods, it appeared as 7 ellipses and a period.

the simplest (think occam's razor) answer is that Q is signalling the number 22.

but by all means, take it either way.

: )

just trying to help. dashes do it too.

– = two hyphens turns into an en dash

— = three hyphens turns into an em-dash

←- and -→ = three hyphens and a less/greater than turn into arrows.

all of the 'turn into' characters have real ascii values associated with them.

i don't think it's intentional, it's just what the board software does, as a matter of convention.

three dots in grammar is an ellipses, so it just puts one there. same with arrows and long dashes. they each have real uses, and the board software is fitting them where they go.

this has two major implications in the q crumbs.

q posted (what i think were) 22 hyphens once, mentioned RR, and then 23 hyphens, and then 23 hyphens in another crumb.

turns into seven em dashes and one or two hyphens.

also, his trip code ended thusly: —-23!!!

which is either an emdash on purpose, and a hyphen, or the simpler answer, four hyphens.

forgot.

when you do 23 hyphens it turns into 7 em-dashes and an en-dash (two remaining hyphens)

it's been a while since i went through this discussion.
