Hunter Biden's Claims In Court About A Massive Chinese Payment Don't Quite Add Up
Hunter Biden’s statements in court about a $1 million payment sent to one of his companies from a Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-linked entity neglects key details that call the stated reason for the transaction into question, The Federalist first reported.
During Wednesday’s hearing on his plea deal, Judge Maryellen Noreika questioned Hunter Biden on a $1 million payment distributed to Owasco, LLC, attributed in the plea deal’s statement of facts to “legal fees for Patrick Ho”— an executive of the CCP-linked CEFC China Energy. Both Hunter Biden and the Department of Justice omit information that make the reason behind the payment a bit murkier, such as the fact that Owasco, LLC isn’t a law firm and the payment wasn’t initially made to Owasco, LLC, The Federalist first reported.
Ho’s $1 million payment was initially made on Nov. 2, 2017 to Hudson West III LLC, a shell company co-owned by Hunter Biden, according to a U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs report. It was then wired to Owasco LLC —not the law firm, Owasco PC — on March 22, 2018, according to the transaction.
Hunter Biden mixed up Owasco PC and Owasco LLC during the hearing, claiming the money went to the former, according to the transcript. He initially said Owasco PC operated as a “law firm entity” and then told the judge “I don’t know that for a fact.”
He also claimed it was his “own law firm” providing the services to Ho, not himself “as counsel,” according to the transcript. Yet a September 2017 Attorney Engagement Letter uncovered from Hunter Biden’s laptop included a $1 million retainer agreement for legal representation between Hunter Biden and Ho, according to the New York Post.
Ho was indicted in December 2017 on charges of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, international money laundering and conspiracy to commit both shortly after sending the $1 million to Hunter Biden’s company, according to court documents. He reportedly first called Joe Biden’s brother James Biden, per the Senate report.
Records in the Senate report tell other stories about the transaction, claiming it was for “the purpose of conducting a market investigation of [a] natural gas project” that was later deemed unnecessary and refunded. In email from April 2, 2018, Hunter Biden “stated that the incoming wire amounting to $1MM on 11/2/2017 from CEFC Limited foundation should have gone to Owasco LLC, however, he provided the wrong wire instructions, and due to the large amount the transactions was not corrected until 3/22/2018, which consisted of an outgoing wire for the same amount benefiting Owasco LLC,” according to the Senate report.

Ukrainian drone hits Moscow’s financial hub – mayor
Several more UAVs were intercepted on approach, according to Sergey Sobyanin
Ukrainian drones have once again targeted the Russian capital’s financial and business district, following a similar attack over the weekend, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed early on Tuesday.
One drone has managed to penetrate air defenses and hit one of the high-rises in Moscow City, where some of Europe’s tallest skyscrapers are located, Sobyanin said in a Telegram post around 3:40am.
“Several drones were shot down by air defense systems while trying to fly to Moscow. One hit the same tower in the [Moscow] City as the last time,” the official wrote. He added that the building’s facade on the 17th floor was “damaged.”
According to photos and videos from the scene, the drone hit the 50-story building of the ‘IQ Quarter’ complex, which contains the offices of several Russian government agencies, including the ministries of trade, economy, and telecommunications.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries, but “emergency services are working at the scene,” according to the mayor.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that a total of three drones were involved in the raid. Two of them were allegedly destroyed mid-air outside Moscow, while the third one was suppressed by radio electronic warfare, veering off course and crashing into a “non-residential complex in Moscow City.”
On Sunday, Kiev made another attempt to attack Moscow City, the Russian capital’s financial and business district. According to the MOD, all incoming aircraft were shot down or suppressed by air defenses, but their debris damaged the glass facades of two skyscrapers. One person was injured.
Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Ukraine is launching “terrorist strikes” on Moscow and other civilian targets in Russia out of frustration over its failures on the battlefield. The attempted drone attacks on Moscow are “some sort of acts of desperation against the background of those failures. And, of course, Kiev resorts to such terrorist tactics,” Peskov said.

Israeli occupation begins new excavations to falsify history of occupied Golan and steal its antiquities
Occupied Syrian Golan, SANA- The Israeli occupation authorities have launched illegal archaeological excavations in the Syrian village of Bab al-Hawa, in an attempt to falsify the history of the occupied Syrian Golan and steal its antiquities.
These excavations constitute a further violation of the United Nations resolutions, foremost of which is the Security Council Resolution No. 497 of 1981, which confirms that all Israeli measures on Golan are null and void.
The village of Bab al-Hawa is located in a rugged volcanic area north of Tel al-Aram, and was destroyed by the occupation during its aggression in 1967 along with more than 240 other Syrian villages and farms.
The occupation authorities had carried out excavations at the site years ago and found sarcophagi dating from prehistoric times, as well as ceramics from the Byzantine era.
The occupation excavations in the village come 20 days after the occupation had announced a scheme to bulldoze the remaining homes s in the town of Ein Fitt and turn it into a military site for his forces, despite the Golan people’s rejection of the scheme aims to obliterate the Syrian Arab identity of village.

Colombian President Petro's son arrested in money laundering probe
Nicolas Petro, son of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, has been arrested as part of an investigation into money laundering and illicit enrichment, the attorney general's office said early on Saturday.
The younger Petro, a politician in Atlantico province, had welcomed the investigation when it began in March and has previously called accusations that he took money from drug traffickers in exchange for including them in his father's peace efforts to end civil strife unfounded and harmful.
Also arrested on money laundering and personal data violation accusations was Nicolas' ex-wife Daysuris del Carmen Vasquez, who earlier this year told local media two people accused of involvement with drug trafficking had given Nicolas money for his father's campaign.
The president's son was taken on a plane to the attorney general's office headquarters in capital Bogota from the city of Barranquilla, according to sources from the police and the prosecutor's office.
Colombian media showed videos of both being escorted to a government plane by security agents in armored vehicles and motorcycles.
Petro said on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, that it was painful for one of his children to be jailed, but that the attorney general's office had all guarantees to proceed according to the law.
"To my son I wish luck and strength. May these occurrences forge his character and may he reflect about his own errors," the president said. "As I affirmed to the attorney general I will not intervene nor pressure his decisions, may the law freely guide the process."
Colombia's procurator said in a separate statement it will intervene in the upcoming hearings of Petro's son and his ex-wife to ensure the legal system is respected, as well as the fundamental rights and guarantees of all parties.
The president has pledged to make peace or surrender deals with rebels and crime gangs to end Colombia's 60-year internal conflict, which has killed 450,000 people.
Efforts have been met with mixed success during his first year in office. Revived negotiations with the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group have led to a ceasefire set to begin in August, while efforts to hold conversations with major crime gang the Clan del Golfo have faltered due to continued violence.
A proposed law to regulate crime group surrenders, giving participants lower sentences in exchange for information and restorative work, has drawn harsh critique including from the attorney general.
The attorney general's office will request to a judge that the younger Petro and Vasquez be held on the charges, it said.
"Charges will be formulated for the aforementioned crimes and liberty restriction measures will be requested," the attorney general's office said in a statement.

Former childcare worker from Gold Coast charged with more than 1,600 child sex offences
A former childcare worker has been charged with 1,623 child abuse offences against 91 children, police have revealed.
Key points:
The AFP says the offences occurred at childcare centres in Brisbane, Sydney and overseas
Police will allege all offences were against pre-pubescent girls
The AFP is "highly confident" all 87 Australian children involved have been identified
A Gold Coast man, 45, has been charged with 136 counts of rape and 110 counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10.
An investigation involving the Australian Federal Police (AFP) as well as Queensland and New South Wales police led to the arrest of the man for offences committed in Brisbane, Sydney and overseas between 2007 and 2022.
He has been in custody in Queensland since August 2022 when the AFP arrested and charged him with two counts of making child exploitation material and one count of using a carriage service for child abuse material.
AFP Assistant Commissioner Justine Gough said the man recorded all offences on his phone and cameras and authorities are "highly confident" all children recorded in Australia have been identified.
"The process of identification took time, skill and determination," she said.
Assistant Commissioner Gough said a search warrant was executed at a Brisbane childcare centre on August 20 last year and the man was arrested the next day.
Police seized devices at the man's Gold Coast home that contained a large amount of child abuse material.
Assistant Commissioner Gough said the details of investigation Operation Tenterfield would be "deeply distressing" for the community.
"I am cognisant investigations like these can be re-traumatising for survivors of sexual abuse and loved ones," she said.
The AFP alleges the abuse occurred at 10 childcare centres in Brisbane, between 2007 and 2013 and also between 2018 to 2022, at an overseas location between 2013 and 2014 and at one centre in Sydney between 2014 and 2017.
Assistant Commissioner Gough said the AFP alleges that all the children offended against were pre-pubescent girls.
"We allege the 45-year-old man from the Gold Coast recorded all his alleged offending on his phone and cameras. The AFP is highly confident that all 87 Australian children who were recorded in the alleged child abuse material have been identified.
"The Australian children recorded in the alleged child abuse material have been informed of the investigation. Some of the individuals identified in the alleged child abuse material are now aged 18 years and have been informed."
