Donald Trump case Judge Tanya S. Chutkan once ruled 'presidents are not kings'

Story by Joe Fisher • Aug. 2, 2023

Aug. 2 (UPI) – Former President Donald Trump's third criminal indictment this year will put him before U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, who has ruled against him over records possibly related to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.

In 2021, Chutkan denied Trump's motion to block call logs and other records from being turned over to the House Select Committee that investigated the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

She wasrandomly selected(yeah right) Tuesday to preside over what special counsel Jack Smith said will be a speedy trial on charges that Trump perpetrated a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election that led to the Jan. 6 attack.

A former public defender, Chutkan, 61, was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in June 2014 by former President Barack Obama.

She was born inKingston, Jamaica, and earned her bachelor's degree in economics from George Washington University in Washington. Chutkan earned her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

In her 2021 ruling against Trump,Chutkan wrote, "Presidents are not kings, and plaintiff is not president," refuting the former president's claim of executive privilege over relevant records of communication from the White House.

The judge ultimately decided that the House committee request was supported by substantial public interest in the records. She also noted that the decision by President Joe Biden to not invoke executive privilege on behalf of Trump was not "unprecedented" as Trump claimed.

"History is replete with examples of past presidents declining to assert the privilege," Chutkan wrote. "Past presidents have balanced the executive branch's interest in maintaining confidential communications against the public's interest in the requested information."

Those records proved to be critical in the committee's referrals for criminal charges to the Justice Department, as well as the four-count indictment laid out Tuesday.

Chutkan has also ruled against defendants charged with attacking the Capitol, entering the building and clashing with law enforcement. Thirty-one defendants have come before her and each has received sentences that included time behind bars.

In some of those rulings, she has alluded to the role that Trump and others played in inciting rioters to violence.

When she sentenced rioter Robert Palmer in 2021, Chutkan stated that the people who encouraged him to rally at the Capitol and participate in the attack had not been charged. But she determined that the incitement by others would not be cause for a lighter sentence.

"The people who planned this and funded it and encouraged it haven't been charged, but that's not a reason for you to get a lower sentence," Chutkan said. "I have to make it clear that the actions you engaged in cannot happen again.

"Every day we're hearing about reports of anti-democratic factions of people plotting violence, the potential threat of violence, in 2024."

She’s gotta recuse herself and there is “no random” choice when it comes to these judges

UK may kick out 100,000 Ukrainians

Tory MPs are urging a “bespoke response” to the visa scheme expiration

More than half of the Ukrainians who came to Britain on a refugeeresettlement scheme will have to leave by September 2025 unless the government acts now to give them long-term “clarity,”several Conservative members of Parliament and NGOs said on Wednesday.

An estimated 182,100 Ukrainians have arrived in the UK since February 2022, using the Ukraine Family Scheme and Homes for Ukraine, set up to allow them a three-year stay. =•With no end in sight to the conflict and most of those displaced unwilling to return==, parliamentarians are urging Rishi Sunak’s government to do something, the Daily Telegraph reported.

“With some having kids in school, we need to be able to allow them to plan,” said Bob Seely, a Tory MP who co-chairs the all-party parliamentary group on Ukraine, urging 10 Downing Street to give the Ukrainians “important clarity.”

Sir Robert Buckland, who was justice secretary in Boris Johnson’s cabinet, urged granting Ukrainians a more permanent status. He said the “bespoke” schemes created for a “particularly urgent and unprecedented situation” required a “further bespoke response.”

Buckland said there could be some kind of arrangement with a “higher degree of certainty” that stopped short of full citizenship.

A survey by the Office for National Statistics in July showed that about half of Ukrainian adults intended to remain UK residents even if it becomes safe to go back, matching the sentiments of their compatriots currently in Germany.

Kate Brown, head of the charity Reset, pointed out that the displaced Ukrainians have “started to rebuild their lives here,” learning English and getting jobs. Reset has worked with the government on the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

“The infrastructure in Ukraine has completely been destroyed,” said Stan Benesh, managing director of Opora, a UK-based charity supporting Ukrainian immigration. Even if Ukraine wins, he said, “there wouldn’t be enough resources to go around” if everyone returns.

“So in a way, it’s almost a better thing if it’s a slower or more targeted return of those that, once it is safe, do want to go back,” he said.

A Home Office spokesperson told the Telegraph that the government will keep the schemes “under review” should they need to be extended “in line with developments of the situation in Ukraine.”

Around 8.6 million Ukrainians who left the country due to the ongoing conflict do not intend to return, a Kiev nonprofit called the Ukrainian Institute for the Future (UIF) said in June. UIF’s latest report noted that Ukraine had been on a downward demographic spiral by the time of the 2014 Maidan coup, having lost almost seven million residents since declaring independence in 1991.

‘Special services’ control Western media – Kremlin

Russia is seeking to counter the US-UK media machine, Dmitry Peskov has said

The US and its allies have mobilized their media for a war with Russia and operate them under de-facto military censorship, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.

“There are a lot of serious media outlets [in the West], a lot of talented journalists, smart, professional, but now, since they unleashed this war against us, they absolutely live in a state of military censorship,” Peskov said.

President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman was part of a panel discussion dubbed ‘Elements of social engineering’ at a youth forum in Solnechnogorsk, a town about 45 kilometers northwest of Moscow.

According to Peskov, Western outlets “receive instructions and manuals from their special services, they get leaks of information – which are mostly, very often, specially and professionally prepared falsehoods – and do this round the clock.”

The most influential media outlets in the world are “unfortunately the Anglo-Saxon media, American and British,” Peskov said. Russia has set out to compete with them “very gingerly, but quite successfully,” he added.

Peskov said something similar in May, telling a Bosnian Serb TV station that the West “immediately became hysterical” and shredded their official commitment to freedom of speech when Russia tried to compete with their media monopoly.

They tore off all masks right away and showed there is no freedom of the press over there,” he told ATV at the time. “The moment any outlets became ‘uncomfortable’ to them, the moment they started presenting viewpoints different from their mainstream, they were banned.”

He also noted that the Kremlin has refused to give interviews to any Western media since early 2022, considering it pointless until those outlets start showing “at least some interest in the truth.”

TheEU and Canada have outright banned all branches of RT and Sputnik as “Kremlin propaganda” shortly after the Ukraine conflict escalated. Several US-based social media platforms have followed suit. At last year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, then-YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki argued that “information can be weaponized,” so her company decided to extend the EU ban on RT and Sputnik globally, while continuing to operate in Russia so that Russians can get “independent news” from the West.

(So true!)

Yeah it was very odd, I don’t think it was the same time Pelosi was taking her extended family overseas was it.

Why do you think President Trump feels so bad about how Pence us treated? Was Pence a pawn and he was so stupid he didn’t realize how hard he was played?

Sorry to say but I have to agree. If he stood for Trump today he would be up in the polls, but he is as stupid as DeSadist, he takes the advice of haters for money.

Can ypu imagine the Evangelicals that would love Pence today of he stood by Trump? Now he has no possibility of being elected for anything again. It makes me second guess the stories of child trafficking through Indiana. And his wife Karen being his beard.

Man she hated Melania, I’d take pictures of charity events if both of them Karen would always look sour and looking at Melania, with not exactly loving looks.

Karen Pence dresses like Jill Biden, very sad

Mike showed himself blatantly at the Fort McHenry (I think fourth of July), but if you look at all the rallies for Trump, Pence was to speak, he said the same speech, same tone, nothing different. When the board was down (late 2019) showed on GAB there were only Trump 2020 signs, no Trump/Pence signs at a couple of rallies. These pics are only one rally, It happened at quite a few just before Covid dropped.

My Gab anons have to be here to confirm this, seriously these guys gave me so much comfort, we were spread across the boards. Ultimately I went to 1/2 chan because it was better than where I was

I think President Trump felt like Pence did what he was told, but PDJT was not deceived by him, he knew everything. I kind of wonder if he was doing a psyop on Pence, or just felt sorry for him how badly he’s been used so many times. At this point it is in Trump’s best interest that he is showing real loyalty (which I think he is). Which exposes the disloyalty of Pence. Trump knew how hard it was on everyone in the WH, ultimately Pence to our knowledge, didn’t betray Trump while in office; except at the most crucial moment of his lifetime.

No I’m not sure it was part of the plan, “it had to be this way” looking back on how much worse and more evil our country can get. So yes, Trump was never deceived and he could rely on Pence to do what he was told (regardless of who it was)

Yeah, if they are in public, pick up the shit. I had a fenced yard for that reason. I could clean it up without people seeing me as a janitor for my dogs and people didn’t walk in it. Its polite and we are mostly not in a country setting
