Puppet screaming for Ukraine treatment

Ousted Niger President Urges US Intervention Amid Fears Wagner Could Move In

Update(2050ET): On Thursday evening The Washington Post published an op-ed by the ousted president of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, calling on the United States and the "entire international community" to intervene in order to restore him to power, and return the country to constitutional order.

He also stated in the Washington Post that he was writing "as a hostage", at a moment unrest has persisted in the streets, following his overthrow by the military last Friday (and by his own presidential guard).

Earlier in the day the junta declared the formal withdrawal of Niger's ambassadors from France, the US, Nigeria and Togo. There are now growing fears of an alliance between Niger's military and Russia's Wagner Group, which has a significant presence across West Africa and elsewhere on the continent.

The New York Times has speculated on this prospect, writing Wednesday:

A week after a military overthrow of Niger’s elected president, a coup leader and other officers flew to neighboring Mali on Wednesday to meet with its rulers, raising concerns that a key Western ally could grow closer to military leaders in Mali who partner with the Kremlin-backed Wagner private military company.

Gen. Salifou Modi, one of the putschists who removed President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger from power last week, was part of a delegation of military officials who visited Mali, according to a post on social media from the office of the president in Mali.

The Wagner group has about 1,500 troops in Mali, allied with the military regime there. Its founder, Yevgeny V. Prigozhin, has praised the coup in Niger and offered Wagner’s services to the new rulers, though it is unclear what operational control he still has over the group after his failed mutiny in Russia in June.

Already the rhetoric of 'Russia being behind the coup' is growing, as a top Ukrainian official has already alleged this week. Is a Cold War 2.0 in Africa in the works?

China's overseas police 'contact point' joins the cloud and remains operational in Australia

China has been using cloud-based technology to implement a police service in Australia, the ABC can reveal.

Key points:

The cloud system combines Chinese technology-giant Tencent's cloud meeting platform (similar to Zoom) and app WeChat

It provides a channel for Chinese nationals in Australia to connect with local police officers in China

International student leaders in Australia have reportedly been recruited to help people access the online system

China has set up dozens of police outreach centres in various cities across the world — which Beijing calls "contact points" — linked to the security departments of Chinese cities.

Beijing has maintained these are staffed by volunteers and are designed to help Chinese citizens abroad with administrative tasks such as renewing national identification cards, passports and drivers licences, but human rights experts are concerned the contact points could be used to intimidate Chinese dissidents living overseas.

At least one of these Chinese police liaison points, established in May last year, is still operating in Australia.

It works with the Hai'an police force in the eastern city of Nantong, and uses a cloud-based system without a fixed business address, according to an official internal government document uncovered by the ABC.

Kari Lake Advocates for Decertifying 2020 Election Rather Than Impeaching “Illegitimate” President Biden: “He Really Isn’t… the True President”

Popular Republican Kari Lake spoke out on Thursday surrounding the 2020 election during an appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room on Real America’s Voice. This interview followed former President Trump’s latest arraignment on speech crimes in Washington DC.

During the discussion, Lake posited that the conflict American citizens are currently witnessing is one between “We the People” and the “tyrannical” government.

“Well, yeah, it’s pretty obvious that it’s we the people versus our tyrannical government right now. And there’s only one candidate who’s willing to stand up to that swamp or the tyranny, and that’s President Donald J. Trump,” said Lake.

The Lake further emphasized the illegitimacy of the 2020 presidential election, stating that the January 6 riots were staged to distract from the fraudulent election certification.

She said, “All that January 6 was a staged riot to cover up the fact that they certified a fraudulent election.”

Lake further expressed her opposition to the idea of impeaching Joe Biden — rather than impeaching him, she proposed revisiting the 2020 election fraud results.

“If we just go back and deal with this fraudulent election and what happened in 2020, we don’t have to impeach him, because he really isn’t, in my opinion, and many others and you look at the evidence, the true president. Why don’t we decertify 2020 [election], and that’s the way we deal with it,” Lake said.

In a Twitter post, Lake wrote, “Impeaching the illegitimate occupant in the White House isn’t necessary here. We have all of the evidence from the fraudulent election. Let’s decertify 2020. Save our legislators the trouble.”
