ROME—A jarring report outlining decades of rampant child sex abuse at the hands of greedy nuns and perverted priests paints a troubling picture of systematic abuse in the German church.
The report is the byproduct of a lawsuit alleging that orphaned boys living in the boarding houses of the Order of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer were sold or loaned for weeks at a time to predatory priests and businessmen in a sick rape trade.
The men involved in the lawsuit say as boys they were denied being adopted out or sent to foster families because selling them for rape lined the sisters’ coffers for their “convent of horrors.”
Some of the boys were then groomed to be sex slaves to perverts, the report claims.
The alleged abuse went on for years, with one of the males claiming the nuns even frequently visited their college dorms after they had left the convent.
He said the nuns often drugged him and delivered him to predators’ apartments. The Order of Sisters of the Divine Redeemer did not answer multiple requests for comment about the allegations.

Catholic nuns running a children's home in Germany pimped out boys to priests, politicians and businessmen who would rape the children at sex parties, according to a victim who has won a compensation battle.
Darmstaft Social Welfare Court awarded the man, now 63, compensation after he detailed how nuns dragged him to be abused by priests and powerful men at parties, starting at age five. They paid the women for doing so.
The victim, who remains anonymous, said he was raped around 1,000 times during his time at the home in the 1960s and 70s, alongside other boys.
The court ruled on the case in May but the latest abuse scandal for the Catholic church only came to light this month after a senior clergyman spoke publicly.
The Bishop of Speyer, Karl-Heinz Wiesemann publicly named former official of the diocese Rudolf Motzenbäcker, who died in 1998, as being allegedly involved in the abuse. The bishop said three further victims have since come forward.
The abuse victim was just five when he joined the home run by the Order of the Sisters of the Divine Saviour in the German city of Speyer in March 1963.
The victim said he was 'literally dragged' by the nuns to Motzenbäcker's apartment to be sexually abused, reports Der Spiegel. They would beat him when he resisted.
The man, who was an alter boy at the Speyer Cathedral, said he was assigned the priest as a confessor.
The victim said visitors to the children's home would abuse him at 'sex parties'.
It was here that he said the nuns would pass youngsters aged between seven and 14 to clergymen, local politicians and businessmen.
'The nuns were pimps,' he said. If they disobeyed they would be beaten with sticks or have their heads smashed against the wall.

German nuns aided in the abuse of children by priests in the 1960s and 1970s, according to recently released court documents.
A victim testified that he was abused more than 1,000 times by clergy after nuns dragged him to the home of predators, Deutsche Welle reported.
The victim alleged some of the nuns received money for acting like "pimps," Der Spiegel reported.
German nuns in the city of Speyer received money for luring children to predatory priests who sexually abused them, local media reported from recently released court documents.
One victim, Karl Haucke, filed a court case seeking compensation from the Catholic church and alleging more than 1,000 instances of abuse over the 10 years he lived at a now-shuttered children's home, Deutsche Welle reported.
The case was decided in May, but the documents were only recently released. Haucke was awarded $18,000 for his suffering, the outlet reported.
The Bishop of Speyer has identified the primary abuser as a vicar named Rudolf Motzenbäcker, who is now dead.
The abuse is alleged to have happened in the 1960s and 1970s.
Haucke said he was "literally dragged" by nuns to Motzenbäcker's home where he was abused, Der Spiegel reported.
If he resisted, Haucke alleged, he would be beaten.
Haucke also testified that influential visitors to the children's home would abuse him and other children as young as 7 at "sex parties."

The report comes after a scandal surrounding now-defrocked priest Bernard Preynat rocked the French Catholic Church. Last year, Preynat was convicted of sexually abusing minors and given afive-year prison sentence.

The French Catholic church has expressed “shame” and pleaded for forgiveness, after a devastating report found that at least 330,000 children were victims of sexual abuse by clergy and lay members of church institutions over the past 70 years.
The publication of the landmark report on Thursday, France’s first major reckoning with what the Catholic church accepted was “appalling” abuse,
has shaken the country with its horrific findings of a “massive phenomenon” of sexual abusers of children operating for decades within the church and its associated institutions.
The two-and-a-half-year independent inquiry found that staggering numbers of children were subjected to sexual violence by priests and clergy while the crimes were covered up in a “systemic way” by a deliberate “veil of silence” in the church.
The president of the investigative committee, Jean-Marc Sauvé, told a press conference: “Until the early 2000s the Catholic church showed a profound and even cruel indifference towards the victims.”

The living conditions in jails were grievous: the massive number of arrests made prisoners live in extreme overcrowding. Food was scarce, and hygiene was poor.
Many children who entered jail with their mothers died there.
Those who survived were separated from their mothers and, in many cases, given up for illegal adoptions, as the law stated that children could not remain in jail with their mothers after the age of three years.
Other children ended up in convents, forced to convert to Catholicism.

Child trafficking is a very predominant problem that I feel people do not talk enough about.
It is something that happens more often than we think or at least more often than the media portrays it.
Child trafficking now takes place in black markets and it mainly functions due to organized criminals, but believe it or not, there was a time when medics, nuns, and even priests were making big money by selling children.
You would not expect a priest or nun to do such an atrocious thing, but for many years Spain hid a big underground secret network for child trafficking run by what was considered “normal people” or even people that worked for God.
This secret network ran for almost 50 years without the world knowing, leaving many parents without their babies.
The main trick used was to tell the parents that the newborn had died due to various reasons after birth.
An investigation done by the BBC in 1989 discovered thousands of fake graves of newborns that have been taken away from their parents and sold on the black market by nuns and priests.
In ten years this secret network evolved at a national level and even if the authorities were receiving some concerns about the increased level of dead newborns, no one cared enough to actually look into it.
The Spanish Catholic Church had been found out after many years to be at the roots of this secret network and being the ones making the big bucks on this organized crime.
Who would expect priests or nuns to be so cruel and cold-hearted? No one, that is the reason why this managed to stay a secret for such a long time.
Although you may be thinking how come no one buying these children exposed this secret network?
This is because all of their clients were quite rich people who were also fooled by being told that the large sum of money being paid is due to the adoption taxes “implied by the government”.
The reason I have mentioned Franco is that it seems that most of the children that were stolen were from parents that were either communist or republic, in other words against Franco’s regime.
It was never proven, but based on this information it is very likely that Franco also knew about this dirty business, the reason why the authorities within Spain never got involved.

It is June 6 1969 and Spain is living through the final years of Franco’s dictatorship. At a clinic in Madrid, a woman gives birth to a baby girl she will never see again.
Little is known about what happened to that mother – but almost 50 years later, her daughter Inés Madrigal has just given evidence in a shocking trial.
In the dock was Dr Eduardo Vela, an 85-year-old former gynaecologist accused of stealing Inés from her biological mother.
Vela is alleged to have given the baby as a “gift” to a couple, the Madrigals, who were unable to have their own children. He denies the charges.
Despite the cinematic plot, this is not an isolated case. A network of baby trafficking is believed to have involved a vast network of doctors, nurses, nuns and priests.
Although there is no official figure, the SOS Stolen Babies association estimates that as many as 300,000 babies were taken from their parents in Spain between 1939 and the 1990s.
Among the many problems victims face, the lack of institutional support in Spain is probably one of the most serious. Evidence of the extent of the network is still unclear,
and theSpanish Catholic churchhas so far denied access to its files.
So far, the only person convicted in relation to these cases is Ascensión López – herself one of the alleged “stolen babies” – who was prosecuted for slandering a nun.
A court ruled she had wrongly accused the nun of taking her from her biological mother and handing her to ageing adoptive parents in 1962.

An 85-year-old gynaecologist is to become the first person in Spain to stand trial in connection with the alleged theft and sale of hundreds of thousands of children during and after the Franco regime.
Dr Eduardo Vela arrives in court today charged with the abduction and illegal adoption of a new born girl in 1969, in what is being seen as a test case that could trigger wider investigations into the scandal.
Victims’ groups claim as many as 300,000 babies were stolen and sold under the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco between the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939 and the years after his death in 1975.
Many were taken from Republican families and given to those loyal to the regime.
Franco remains a contentious figure in Spain, and the role of the Catholic Church in supporting the regime and facilitating the sale of children has led some to suggest many would prefer to bury the past.

A tangled web: stealing newborns in twentieth-century Spain

Twentieth-century Spain was a politically unstable, highly divided nation. In 1931, King Alfonso XIII abdicated after the results of elections were interpreted as a plebiscite on abolishing the monarchy.
What followed was “one weak government after another.”
In 1936, with a socialist coalition governing Spain, “army leaders, backed by some of the country’s wealthiest families, decided they…had enough of democracy, and more than enough of socialism.”
Army general Francisco Franco (1892–1975) was chosen to lead the revolt.
The resulting civil war (1936–1939) was a manifestation of the divisions in Spain.
The legal, socialist government (the “Republicans”) was supported by party-line communists, Trotskyites, anarchists, socialists, and some low-level Catholic clergy.
The rebels (the “Nationalists”) consisted of the Spanish army, large landowners, and the Catholic church hierarchy. The Republicans got support from international volunteers, Mexico, and the Soviet Union.
The Nationalists were supported by ground and air forces of Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany.
Half a million people died in the war. Of these, 20% (100,000) were killed in battle. The remaining 400,000 died in air raids or from executions or disease.
The Republicans (called “Reds” by their enemies) confiscated church property and killed about 10,000 bishops, priests, nuns, and monks.
The Nationalists (“Fascists”) imprisoned and often murdered anyone who did not demonstrate Nationalist sympathies. Providing food to a Republican fighter could result in a long prison term.
After the Nationalist victory in 1939, the ruling party found other ways of punishing opponents and preventing children from “inheriting” anti-government ideas from their parents.
Pregnant woman who were Republican sympathizers, socialists, atheists, or unmarried, were considered “degenerate.” They could not be good mothers, and their newborns needed to be adopted into “better” families.
Some women were heavily sedated at the time of delivery and then told that their (liveborn) baby had been born dead.
Other women saw and heard their newborns, who were then taken “to see the doctor,” and were later told that their baby died of a congenital anomaly.
Some women delivered twins but were told that they gave birth to a singleton, and that they must have been confused.
