Matt Gaetz Threatens Jack Smith with Subpoena to Force Him Before House Judiciary Committee

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida wants to put special prosecutor Jack Smith on the receiving end of a few pointed questions.
Gaetz, who has called for removing the funding that supports Smith, lashed out as former President Donald Trump was indicted by Smith for the second time.
Trump, who was earlier charged with mishandling classified documents in an investigation led by Smith, was charged Thursday with conspiracy in his efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election.
“House Republicans should immediately demand that Jack Smith present himself for a transcribed interview with the Judiciary Committee in the next 15 days.,” Gaetz said in a Newsmax interview he posted to YouTube.
“If he does not do that, we should send a subpoena. If he ignores the subpoena, we should hold him in criminal contempt of the Congress, so that he is the first prosecutor in American history to prosecute a case while himself under criminal contempt,” Gaetz said.
Gaetz then said he is willing to take on Attorney General Merrick Garland.
“If Merrick Garland doesn’t enforce that contempt, then we ought to impeach Merrick Garland,” he said.

Gaetz said it is necessary to “stand up for Congress’s equities when it comes to election interference [and] when it comes to misuse of the DOJ.”
“This is all an effort to try to distract us from the very real crimes committed by Hunter and Joe Biden,” Gaetz said.
“It’s not a coincidence that Joe Biden is going to the beach now, but it is especially not a coincidence that, on the heels of their former business partner, Devon Archer, saying that Joe Biden was functionally the closer — the guy that gave the credibility to the Biden brand so they could engage in their international influence peddling — this indictment reads like a torturing of First Amendment-protected activity,” he said.

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia said she would invoke the Holman rule, if necessary, to stop Smith, according to The Hill.
The rule allows federal lawmakers to zero in on a particular line item, such as one person’s salary, and reduce it.

"Trump brazenly questioned an election even though his name isn't Hillary and he didn't even have a fake Russian dossier to prove his case. This is a dark and dangerous day for our democracy. "Thanks to the President's wonderful economic policies, most Americans have at least two jobs," said gay, black Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to the raucous applause of hand-picked journalists in the room. "Our economists ran the numbers and found that's twice as many jobs as people used to have just a few years ago. So many jobs! Success!"
"Wow! Thanks, President Biden!" said local barista/hardware store clerk/landscaper/drive-thru worker/Uber driver Brett Barnes. "I'm just swimming in jobs right now! Just a couple more jobs and I'll be able to afford bread, eggs, AND milk! Bidenomics works!"
Vice President Kamala Harris also weighed in, saying: "Jobs are important. A job is what you do for a job. Especially now, at this moment in our history, jobs are now a very important part of our history. Because jobs are what we do in history! You know what I mean? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!"

"It's about time someone had the courage to say it, so today I will say it: Trump is bad," said Pence to a raucous crowd of 12 seniors in the activity center of Shady Oaks Retirement Home. "If that hurts my chances with the tens of millions of people who voted for him, so be it. I am a stalwart man of integrity. Just look at my kind eyes and serious face."
Pence then looked directly into the camera with a look of integrity.
Sources within the Pence campaign confirmed Pence plans to make up the loss in support by courting Biden voters and convincing them he is not a bigoted Nazi fascist homophobe. "We have faith in the virtuous Americans who voted for Biden," said a campaign spokesman. "They will certainly see things our way once Pence has had the chance to talk to them in his comforting evangelical Dad voice and make them see reason."
Pence also expressed confidence that he would be able to make inroads with the 150 million people who didn't vote in the previous elections, such as babies, illegal immigrants, and Chinese spies posing as university professors.
"Trump is an existential threat to democracy and an evil person," continued Pence. "I know this from my 4 years of loyally and unquestioningly serving him. Vote for me!"

Judge Rules That Donald Trump Has ‘Presidential Immunity’ on False Election Claims

A judge in Pennsylvania determined that former President Trump cannot be sued by an election official over statements he made casting suspicion on the 2020 election results during his presidency, due to the protection provided by presidential immunity.
Judge Michael Erdos of Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas ruled that Trump’s immunity extends to a tweet he posted and statements he made during a Pennsylvania state Senate committee hearing in November 2020, which alleged fraudulent activity in the state’s election counting process, even though these claims were not backed by evidence.
The lawsuit was brought by James Savage, a supervisor of Pennsylvania’s voting machines during the 2020 election. Savage combined two lawsuits claiming that Trump, Rudy Giuliani, a pair of poll observers, and others had conspired to slander him. Savage alleges that their remarks resulted in him receiving death threats and suffering two heart attacks.
“Other legal proceedings may examine the propriety of his statements and actions while he was the President and whether, as the plaintiffs in this and other cases contend, it was this conduct which served as the actual threat to our democracy,” Erdos ruled. “But this case is not the proper place to do so. Here, Trump is entitled to Presidential immunity.”
Erdos ruled that Trump’s initial statements fell within his official duties as he was communicating to the public on matters of public interest.
“Here, then-President Trump’s Gettysburg remarks and his tweet were public,” Erdos wrote. “Moreover, the topic of these statements—claims from third parties and the President himself about irregularities in the Presidential election which on their face called into question the integrity of the election and whether now-President Joseph Biden had been duly elected—was undoubtedly a matter of great public concern.”
Trump legal spokeswoman Alina Habba reacted to the court victory in a statement.
“We are pleased with the Court’s decision to honor the long-standing principle of Presidential Immunity,” Habba said.
“Today, the Court made it clear that it is well within the President’s discretion to address the integrity of our election without fear of liability,” Habba continued. “We expect that the rest of Mr. Savage’s claims will similarly be disposed of as they are without merit.”
However, Special Counsel Jack Smith has indicted former President Donald Trump for his constitutionally protected speech and election challenges ahead of the events leading to the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
Constitutional attorney Jonathan Turley shredded the indictment in a reaction to the announcement.
“The hatred for Trump is so all-encompassing that legal experts on the political left have ignored the chilling implications of this indictment,” Turley wrote. “This complaint is based largely on statements that are protected under the First Amendment. It would eviscerate free speech and could allow the government to arrest those who are accused of spreading disinformation in elections.”
Turley then cast doubt that an indictment of Trump could ultimately stand up to judicial scrutiny at the Supreme Court level, while citing the 2012 case United States v. Alvarez that ruled a politician could not be convicted for lying in a ‘stolen valor’ case.
“That precedent did not deter Smith. This indictment is reminiscent of the case against former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell,” he added. “His conviction on 11 corruption-related counts was unanimously overturned by the Supreme Court in 2016, with Chief Justice John Roberts writing that federal prosecutors relied on a ‘boundless’ definition of actions that could trigger criminal charges against political leaders.”
“This indictment will deepen the view of many in the public that the Justice Department is thoroughly compromised in pursuing political prosecutions,’ Turley corrected noted.

Federal officials on Wednesday announced the appointment of Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo as the incoming director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). This position was previously held by Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Presently serving as the director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at UAB, Dr. Marrazzo gained substantial visibility through her numerous media appearances during the COVID-19 pandemic. She joined UAB in 2016, transferring from the University of Washington, and possesses substantial expertise in the field of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.
Dr. Lawrence Tabak, acting director for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), expressed his anticipation in a press statement, acknowledging Dr. Marrazzo’s considerable experience in leading international clinical trials and translational research, as well as managing significant research budgets and guiding professionals at various stages of their career development.
“Dr. Marrazzo brings a wealth of leadership experience from leading international clinical trials and translational research, managing a complex organizational budget that includes research funding and mentoring trainees in all stages of professional development,” Dr. Tabak said. “I look forward to welcoming Dr. Marrazzo to the NIH leadership team.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci served as NIAID director from 1984 until his retirement in 2022, skillfully guiding the agency through major health crises such as the AIDS/HIV epidemic and the COVID-19 pandemic, earning him nationwide recognition as a prominent medical expert. His tenure was not without controversy, having faced resistance from AIDS activists in the 80s and 90s, and those opposing COVID and vaccine mandates during the pandemic.
