I read a very interesting book about a woman who lived in an Inuit community to attempt to understand them better. The most significant detail that she found, which she titled her book after, was that they teach their children to laugh at misfortune rather than getting angry. She proposed that this is because humour is a natural response to absurdity, and that it is a pro-social coping mechanism rather than anti-social, which gives others room to help.
