China is run by ‘bad folks’ – Biden
The US president has also reportedly told political donors that the Chinese economy is a “ticking time bomb”
US President Joe Biden has escalated his attacks on Chinese leaders, reportedly telling donors to his re-election campaign that China’s government is run by “bad folks” who may take dangerous actions as their economy teeters on the brink of collapse.
Biden claimed on Thursday at a fundraising event in Park City, Utah, that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s government was in “trouble” because Beijing’s economic problems were a “ticking time bomb,” according to multiple media reports. He backed up his assertions with several erroneous claims about China’s economy and demographics.
“They got some problems,” Biden told supporters. “That’s not good because when bad folks have problems, they do bad things.”He falsely stated that China had the “highest unemployment rate going” and more people of retirement age than of working age. He mocked Xi’s signature Belt and Road Initiative as the “debt and noose,” alluding to the loans China provides to developing nations.
The remarks were reminiscent of comments Biden made at a similar political event in June, when he referred to Xi as a “dictator.” Chinese officials lodged a formal complaint in Washington and called the insult a “political provocation.” Biden dismissed the controversy when asked at a press briefing about Beijing’s reaction, saying he didn’t think there would be “any real consequence.”
At Thursday’s fundraising event, the 80-year-old US president said he wants to have a “rational relationship” with China, adding, “I don’t want to hurt China, but I’m watching.” He didn’t specify which potential Chinese actions concern him, though US-China tensions over self-governing Taiwan have escalated in the past year.
Biden claimed that China’s economic growth has slowed to 2%. Chinese GDP rose at a 5.5% pace in this year’s first half, compared with the US rate of around 2.2%. As Western economies feel the effects of historically high inflation, China is dealing with deflation.
The country has more than three times as many people of working age as people 60 and older. China’s unemployment rate is around 5.2%, compared with 6.4% in the Eurozone. Spain and Greece both have double-digit jobless rates.
Biden has made incendiary comments about Xi’s government at a time when his administration is trying to improve strained relations between the world’s two largest economies. His “dictator” remark came just one day after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken concluded a long-awaited visit to China. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and US climate envoy John Kerry later made visits to Beijing.
The Utah fundraiser was held at the home of Mark Gilbert, a former US ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa. Donors reportedly had to pay at least $3,300 to attend. Hosts paid $100,000, and guests who contributed at least $50,000 were allowed to speak with Biden and have a picture taken with him. Those paying $10,000 to $25,000 could get a photo with the president. 11 Aug, 2023

Moscow lashes out at Kiev for decision to expel monks from Lavra
The move is “lawless and arbitrary,” a senior Russian diplomat has said
The Russian Foreign Ministry has condemned a Ukrainian court ruling that enables the country’s government to begin forcibly evicting monks from the historic Kiev Pechersk Lavra.
The court ruling is yet another “lawless and arbitrary” decision by Ukrainian officials, a senior Russian diplomat, Gennady Askaldovich, said in a statement on Friday.
“Another lawless and arbitrary act has been undertaken by the Kiev regime, which fabricated a lawsuit and received a ruling suiting itself,” Askaldovich, who serves as a special envoy on cooperation to ensure freedom of conscience, stated.
The diplomat questioned the purported independence of Ukrainian courts, suggesting that the whole system has degraded beyond the point its decisions may still be treated as legal and legitimate. The country’s judiciary now effectively exists in an atmosphere of “high politicization, legal lawlessness, and moral terror,” Askaldovich wrote. In such circumstances, it is unlikely that attempts to appeal the court ruling would yield any different result, the diplomat noted.
“But, perhaps, international courts, unlike international human rights organizations, will pay attention to the legal nihilism that is happening in Ukraine, take into account the arguments of the defenders of the Lavra, and make a proper judicial decision,” he suggested. However, he admitted that international bodies might be too sloppy to react in time and the Lavra will end up “ransacked.”
The ruling was issued by a Ukrainian court on Thursday, with the judiciary upholding the motion of the national historic monastery to “remove obstacles to the use of property” by evicting the monks. A day before, the same court ruled that the country’s government was within its rights to terminate a lease deal for the monastery with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
The legal team representing the UOC has claimed the court had committed several violations while working on the case and alleged the ruling came under pressure from the government.
“We are listening to a short text of one of the most shameful decisions in the history of modern Ukraine!” Nikita Chekman, an attorney representing the UOC, has said, pledging to appeal the ruling.
The UOC has found itself under mounting pressure from the country’s authorities amid the ongoing hostilities between Ukraine and Russia. The Church formally severed its ties to Moscow early into the conflict, yet the move did not spare it from persecution.
Ukrainian officials have openly favored the so-called Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), a schismatic entity created back in 2018 with active participation of then-president Pyotr Poroshenko. The new entity has been actively laying claims on property controlled by the canonical Church, with the government supporting such efforts. For instance, Ukrainian Culture Minister Aleksandr Tkachenko said back in March that any monks who defected to the OCU from the UOC could stay at the Lavra, while roughly a third of Ukraine’s regions have opted to outright ban the canonical church.

Trudeau’s split from wife reveals some shocking truths
If the opposition and its supporters can’t figure out a way to compete on a level beyond rumors, personal attacks, and wardrobe critiques, then they’re in big trouble.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced recently that he and his wife of 18-years, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, were amicably separating, leaving some Canadians jealous that they couldn’t do the same. Immediately, the rumor mill went into overdrive.
Some on social media suggested that the split involved an affair between Trudeau and very much married Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly — to the point that her name trended for days on Twitter — all because the two had been photographed looking close, and some observers apparently fail to grasp the nature of touchy-feely French-Canadian culture. Others suggested, even more outlandishly, that he was involved with his left-wing coalition partner, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh — again, married and a new father — or even French President Emmanuel Macron.
What flew much more under the radar is the fact that Trudeau asked for privacy in the announcement of his split. While Trudeau himself generally (and admirably) avoids ad hominem attacks on his political opponents, he nonetheless made intrusion into private lives official policy with the Covid jab mandates, which should have remained a private choice made between every citizen and their own doctor. Forcing Canadians to inject themselves with a dodgy substance of even more dodgy effectiveness just to go to the gym or grab a burger isn’t exactly keeping your nose out of people’s private business. Neither is blocking people’s bank accounts just because they chose to support the Freedom Convoy movement when they stood up against these mandates and Trudeau overreach into the personal sphere. …
The fact that rampant speculation about affairs overshadowed the actual policy hypocrisy doesn’t bode well for the state of Canadian politics.
Will the split harm Trudeau politically? Hardly…
Trudeau himself has gone a long way in actively promoting this kind of “open mindedness.” He travels around to Pride Parades like groupies follow rock bands, but that doesn’t mean that he personally knows the LGBTQ alphabet. “I will never apologize for standing up for LGDP…LGT…LBG…LGBTQ+ kids’ rights to not have to undergo conversion therapy,” Trudeau said back in 2021. So when just days after his separation, Trudeau posted a photo on social media from a movie theater while dressed in a pink hoodie that read, “Love you more,” alongside his teenage son, also dressed in pink, with the Barbie movie poster looming in the background and the caption, “We’re team Barbie” — it wasn’t getting limbered up for his coming out. Come on, now — has he even bothered to tell us what his pronouns are? He was just trolling — and pandering. In other words, playing the simple-minded like a fiddle.
Remember, this is a former drama teacher who politically survived photos unearthed back in 2019 of himself dressed up for an “Arabian Nights” gala in 2001 — looking more like Aunt Jemima from the pancake syrup bottles….It’s not like it’s entirely out of character for him to dress up for a movie. But that didn’t stop critics from concluding that the kid in the photo with him — his son — must be his new boyfriend…
Pinning hopes of ousting Trudeau in the next Canadian federal election, set for October 2025, on precarious personal attacks is a losing strategy. Anyone who has to play in that register in order to beat Trudeau is totally incompetent. Trudeau has messed up enough when it comes to substantial policy issues that you really don’t need to look any further. Those who criticize or attempt to counter Trudeau primarily on shallow matters completely unrelated to his ability to run the country only play into the same brand of dumbing down that keeps Trudeau in power.
Trudeau has successfully played shallow-minded and easily led morons like a fiddle by hitting all the woke or politically correct notes that make them feel good about electing him. They figure that by voting for a guy who sounds and acts so “woke,” they’re a good person. It makes them feel that they’re contributing to the continued projection of Canada as open and tolerant — rather than just a country whose voters’ minds are so wide open that they’re falling out.
Trudeau has made an entire political career of dominating the virtue signaling playing field and succeeding in keeping nearly all debate within its limits. The Freedom Convoy fiasco proved that when he's dragged into the policy realm and challenged by a critical mass of people with the ability to actually think outside of the establishment dogma he promotes, then he loses and ultimately folds….

Lukashenko calls for radical change in Belarus’ relations with EU
Belarus wants to have a better relationship with the West and its neighbor Poland, the country’s leader has announced
Minsk is ready to mend ties with its Western neighbors, President Alexander Lukashenko has said, indicating he was ready to converse with everyone, but especially Poland.
The president made the remarks on Friday, as he spoke to reporters amid his visit to Minsk airport and a local civilian aircraft plant. The president admitted that the country had been“living at the expenses of the East” lately, actively cooperating with Russia and China.
“But we must not forget about the high-tech West. They are nearby, they are our neighbors – the European Union. And we cannot lose relations with them. We are ready for this, but taking our own interests into account,”Lukashenko stated.
In particular, the country is ready to have friendlier relations with its immediate neighbor – Poland, the president said. While Warsaw has been “aggravating” the situation in the region lately, it has been doing so on the US’ behalf, Lukashenko suggested, adding that the Poles were not “stupid,” but actually “our people, the Slavs.”
“I instructed the PM to contact them. If they want, let’s talk, fix relations. We are neighbors, one does not choose neighbors, they are from God,” Lukashenko declared, admitting, however, that a thaw in tensions with Poland was unlikely to happen before the country’s parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for October 15. “Of course, it is necessary for them to escalate now, heat up the situation in order to show that they properly armed and re-armed the country,” he said.
Belarus’ relationship with the West has been complicated for decades now, rapidly deteriorating in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election in the country. The polls, marred by widespread mass protests, were contested by an opposition that had received open support from the EU, with Poland becoming one of its most active backers.
Relations with the neighboring country have deteriorated even further amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with Poland rapidly militarizing itself. As of late, Warsaw has repeatedly voiced concerns over the Russian defense contractor Wagner Group, which ended up relocating to Belarus in the aftermath of its botched insurrection in late June.
Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki claimed that the alleged activities of the PMC near the border were “undoubtedly a step towards an upcoming hybrid attack on Polish territory,”while Lukashenko dismissed such allegations, insisting Warsaw had “gone mad” with all the rumors around Wagner.
