Ghirigori - Star Scribbles

It's fun to scribble on the canvas of the sky. You can use a creative photographic technique to cause the light of point-like stars to dance across a digital image by tapping lightly on the telescope while making an exposure. The result will be a squiggly line traced by the star (or two squiggles traced by binary stars) that can reveal the star's color. Colorful lines, dubbed Ghirigori, made from stars found in the northern sky constellations Bootes, Corona Borealis, Ophiucus, and Coma Berenices, are captured in this artistic mosaic. The 25 stars creating the varied and colorful squiggles are identified around the border. Of course, temperature determines the color of a star. While whitish stars tend to be close to the Sun's temperature, stars with bluer hues are hotter, and yellow and red colors are cooler than the Sun.

Perseid meteor shower 2023, online observation

Aug 12, 2023 9:30 ET

The Perseid meteor shower is back, ready to put a nice show up there, without any Moon interference. At Virtual Telescope, we will share its peak live, online: join us from the comfort of your home!

We will broadcast the meteor shower live, online, for free. We will share the view of our wide field cameras, to show any potential meteor they will capture. This is something you really want to join! We will use, in particular, our all-sky camera, installed under the dark skies of our facility in Manciano, Italy, in the Maremma countryside.

The online, free session to see the Perseid 2023 meteor shower is scheduled for the 13 Aug. 2023, starting at 01:30 UT, around the peak of activity.
