Nursefag here. We use Fentanyl to keep people sedated on vents. Some get super high doses (300mcg/hr), depending on their body composition. Even low IV doses for pain relief are dangerous if people don't have respiratory backup. Some hospitals moving away from it for long term use because of the opioid withdrawal issue.
