In December 2022, there were 68,884 homeless people, including 21,805 homeless children, sleeping each night in New York City's main municipal shelter system. A near-record 22,720 single adults slept in shelters each night in December 2022.

I don't know I just grabbed the data from a united way site and yes I know they are most likely corrupt as well. Just using their data, https://unitedwaymassbay.org/our-impact/ending-homelessness/ So maybe they are fudging the numbers to get more funding which is plausible, I just know in my city homelessness is terrible and most refuse to go instead they camp out on the streets in tents and shit quite literally on the side walk.
