Red State University Reverses Course On Shuttering 'Diversity, Equity And Inclusion' Offices, Despite State Law

The University of Houston has backtracked on shutting down its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and LGBTQ Resource Center following signage being posted saying they would be shut down, the university told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 17 in May, which prohibits DEI offices and preferential treatment of individuals based on race, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation at public universities and colleges. Universities around the state then began shutting down DEI offices and race-based programs that may violate the policy, but the University of Houston reversed course on the decision to do so, saying it planned to find a way to continue keeping its campus diverse.

“The signage outside the DEI and LGBTQ offices was premature and posted without the full consultation and communication process we pride ourselves on. We understand the importance of keeping our community informed and will have details to share in the coming weeks,” Shawn Lindsey, associate vice chancellor and associate vice president media relations, told the DCNF.

Numerous states have filed legislation attempting to eliminate DEI practices. States such as Florida and Texas have already enacted DEI bans, and many other states, such as Iowa, Missouri and Arizona are considering such legislation.

“The UH System is in the process of creating a full implementation plan, which will be presented to the UH System Board of Regents later this month. As the policy takes shape, we will provide clear guidelines and resources to support our community through this transition. We value the academic, social and broader community benefits that arise from diverse campuses and our commitment to our entire university community has not changed,” Lindsey said.

“We will continue to work with impacted units to ensure compliance while maintaining our focus on student success. Both offices are still operating. The Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has moved suites,” Lindsey said.

Abbott did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

'North Of $50 Million': GOP Rep Says Biden Payouts Even Higher Than Reported

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina said Monday that the money paid to the Biden family from foreign companies was much higher than reported, based on suspicious activity reports.

“We’re not allowed to share the suspicious activity reports, but I’ve seen suspicious activity reports that make me believe the amount of money that the Biden family was paid off is north of $50 million,” Mace told “Cavuto Coast to Coast” guest host Cheryl Casone. “It’s not just Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, James Biden, his brother. There are grandchildren that received money from communist China, for example.”

The House Oversight Committee released bank records Wednesday showing that Hunter Biden received millions of dollars from Russian oligarch Elena Baturina, who was married to Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov until his death in 2019. The House Oversight Committee identified roughly $20 million in payments to the Biden family.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the appointment of Weiss as special counsel Friday to investigate allegations surrounding Hunter Biden. Biden pleaded not guilty to all charges after a plea bargain announced June 20 collapsed when United States District Judge Maryellen Noreika questioned both the initial plea deal and a more limited revision during a July 26 hearing.

Mace also defended Republicans for not immediately racing to impeach President Joe Biden, and blasted Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi, saying she “politicized” the impeachment process.

“I don’t want this to be seen as tit-for-tat. I want us to be deliberative, I want us to be thoughtful, and I want us to show the American people the truth,” Mace told Casone. “Don’t trust us, but trust the evidence that will, I believe, come forward.”

“We don’t want to rush the process,” Mace said later. “We have to be seen better than Nancy Pelosi, we have to be seen as better than the left, because I want the American people to know and trust what we’re putting forward and not think this is political. It shouldn’t be political, it should be about the evidence.”

Internal Revenue Service whistleblowers Gary Shapley and fellow whistleblower Joseph Zeigler testified about interference with the investigation into Hunter Biden during a July 19 hearing held by the House Oversight Committee.

One Of The Best Football Movies Of The Last 20 Years Was … A Lie?

Former NFL star Michael Oher, who was supposedly adopted by a wealthy, white family, and then the true story (or so we thought) was portrayed in the 2009 hit movie “The Blind Side,” made a petition to a Tennessee court Monday with claims that the film is actually a lie and the family came up with the fib to enrich themselves at his expense.

The news was first reported by ESPN’s Michael A. Fletcher.

Filed in Shelby County probate court, the 14-page petition reportedly slams Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy — who took Oher into their home while he was in high school — with allegations they never actually adopted him. The petition states less than three months following Oher turning 18 in 2004, the Tuohys allegedly tricked him into signing documentation that made them conservators. By signing, Oher allegedly gave the Tuohys legal power to do business deals in the ‘Michael Oher’ name, per Fletcher.

The Tuohys allegedly used their conservatorship power to wheel and deal millions of dollars from “The Blind Side” to both themselves and their two birth children, the petition claims. The Oscar-winning film earned over $300 million in royalties. Oher alleges he received nothing from the film “that would not have existed without him.”

The petition from Oher also requests the court to end the conservatorship and issue an injunction to ban them from using his name and likeness, Fletcher noted. Oher is demanding a full accounting of what the Touhys earned while using his name, and he wants his fair share of the profits. The former NFL star also wants punitive damages and unspecified compensatory.

Back in 1991, the US tried to prevent the USSR from collapsing – why did Washington want its Cold War rival to survive?

The end of decades of conflict was the result of combined efforts by Moscow and Washington

If you Google “the end of the Cold War,” the search engine will instantly tell you that this event occurred on December 26, 1991, the day when the Soviet Union ceased to exist. However, this isn’t really true. Two years prior to that, the leaders of the US and the USSR officially declared the end of the confrontation that had lasted for over 40 years.

The tension that grew between the two superpowers in the 1980s was eventually eased through joint diplomatic efforts. The trust established between the Kremlin and the White House in those years not only inspired the United States to consider integrating the USSR into the new system of international relations in the early ‘90s, but also moved it to prevent the collapse of the ‘Red Empire’.

But why did Washington suddenly become a friend of its sworn enemy? And at what point did this friendliness give way to uncompromising statements about winning the Cold War and the United States’ triumphant ‘dance’ on the ashes of its deceased enemy?

A thorny path

In the last decade of the Cold War, the situation on the global chessboard did not play out in favor of the USSR. The Soviet economy was considerably weakened by a protracted arms race, which the US only accelerated. At the end of 1983, Washington placed the first battery of Pershing II missiles in Europe. These could reach targets in the western part of the USSR in only six to eight minutes.

At the same time, the US started talking about a new type of nuclear strike against the USSR – a ‘decapitation’ (or ‘blinding’) attack that would remove the country’s leadership before the decision to conduct a retaliatory strike could be made. In 1984, then-president Ronald Reagan launched the ‘Star Wars program’, which threatened to expand the Soviet-American conflict into outer space.

But even before these events, the Soviet leadership feverishly sought a compromise with the United States. Yury Andropov, the then general secretary, tried to reach an agreement with Washington, but his initiative was scuppered by the tragic downing of a Korean Air Lines Boeing 747, after which Reagan made his famous speech, calling the USSR an “evil empire.”

Hopes of ending the conflict instantly disappeared. Tension only increased and reached a record, 30-year high. At that point, the USSR decided continuing negotiations would be a sign of weakness on its part. The dialogue came to naught, and left both parties fearing a nuclear strike.

FDA Approved 65% Of New Drugs In 2022 Based On A Single Study

The 21st Century Cures Act (Cures Act), signed into law in December 2016, was created to help accelerate medical product development and “bring new innovations and advances” to patients quicker and more efficiently. Yet some researchers suggest the law is being used to bypass the once rigorous and evidenced-based standards for new drug approvals, allowing novel drugs to flood the market without adequate data and public transparency.

According to a research letter published on August 8 in the Journal of the American Medical Association Network Open (JAMA), 24 of the 37 drugs approved in 2022 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) were based on a single study, with only four drugs having more than three studies to support their approval.

“I’m not surprised,” David Gortler, a pharmacologist, pharmacist, and FDA reform advocate at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, told The Epoch Times in an email. As a former senior advisor to the FDA commissioner, Mr. Gortler said he saw the agency grant expedited approval to a medication called aducanumab—used to treat Alzheimer’s disease “based on zero positive studies.”

“They did the same with other monoclonal antibodies for Alzheimer’s disease,” Mr. Gortler said.

According to the research letter, most of the 413 studies evaluating the 37 drugs approved in 2022 were sponsored by the industry—meaning they were manufactured, funded, and analyzed by the company producing the product, seeking FDA approval, and standing to benefit financially from the drug.

Of the studies available for analysis, only 25 percent of study results have been made publicly available, with the results of six percent of those studies published after the FDA had already approved the drug for use.

Furthermore, researchers found that only 55 percent of studies evaluating drugs in 2022 consisted of randomized clinical trials—the “gold standard” of evidence-based medicine—despite the FDA justifying most approvals based on randomized clinical trial data.

For comparison, only 20 percent of medical products in 2016 were approved based on a single study, and 55 percent were approved based on three or more studies, whereas 65 percent of drugs in 2022 were approved based on a single study, with only 11 percent having three or more studies.

“We believe consumers deserve access to the full range of evidence for the drugs they are considering, not just from the selected studies released to the public,” the authors wrote.

The researchers say their results “highlight a trend toward less rigorous standards for novel drug approvals that has evolved over the past few decades” and are consistent with other reports showing a widespread decrease in the number of trials used for drug approvals.

CBDCs: The Ultimate Corruption Of Money

Imagine this: It’s payday but before the money reaches your account, someone else has already decided what you’ll spend your money on — one third of your paycheck on housing, one third on food (only plant and insect protein allowed), 10% on transportation (with little allowance for gas), 10% on a mandatory pension plan (mostly allocated to government bonds) and the remaining 14% on clothing, alcohol and pharmaceuticals in state-licensed shops. Spending outside of these allocations comes with huge markups and, as if this isn’t bad enough, saving is impossible as this money comes with an expiration date: after three months, it simply disappears from your account.

This dystopian world is closer than you think. Central bank digital currencies, or CBDCs, could make it a reality. CBDCs are an attempt to duct-tape the failing monetary system back together, and in the process provide the State with nearly unlimited control over the financial system, and thus our spending habits and the way we lead our lives.

In this article, I explain the motivation for governments pursuing the CBDC programs, why it is one of the greatest threats to our freedoms today and what steps you can take to limit its impact on you and your family.
