Odd "holding pattern" midway along a leg of a flight. Usually these oval patterns are flown close to the destination airport as the plane waits in a queue to land.
It seems rather odd to me that the plane deviated south of its route to fly that pattern.
It definitely looks deliberate to draw attention to that area.
