But if it uses the newfangled "just-in-time" delivery?

Then, flick of a switch, they can turn it off immediately.

Helpful to have "battery" or "storage" or etc to get through any times of "no incoming resources", similar to how we can fast longer than the critters inside us can survive.

Anon just got something:

The expression, "Living rent-free in their heads"!

Parasites do live "rent-free" inside the body of the host.

The parasite doesn't pay the rent;

the parasite collects the rent, i.e., eats the host's food.

And controls the host's thoughts/behavior.
